Default Gang memo

Hi guys, I was hoping to get some help/imput. I'm putting in for my gang unit and wanted to see what should be include in my memo. Should I include my stats that pertain to the position? I've have been a beat officer for 8 years and I'm ready to try something different. Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance,

MPD

For my agency, when you want to transfer to a specific unit, you will have to submit the application along with 2 years time record, 2 years of performance evaluation, and go through the interview and department background process.

I don't know what other agencies are doing.

For us, the memo just puts your name in the hat. Our actual selection process, is your packet including last X evals, documents to meet a requirement (i.e. CDL endorsement for motors), an oral board for most assignments and maybe a qual (i.e. PFT and shooting for SWAT).

However use the memo as a pre-interview. Remember you may not know all the decision makers and the memo will be part of your packet. Try including relevant stats (arrest on gang charges, narcotics, arrests of gang memebers, work with gang injuctions and whatever your gangs are into) and testimony (expert witness), relevant training (gang training/conferences, certain programs, 'classification' if you worked custody, TLO/intel,..etc). Also talk with your gang unit, they may have a need or issue you can address; if so put it in there. An example maybe, the unit serves high risk warrants w/o a SWAT callout and you happen to have SWAT experience.
