Default Stiller Action Group Buy?

Ok.. well I know of at least 4 of us that would be interested in this. And if we get 6 in on it.. the savings would be even greater!

Anyone have FFL hookups that can set this up? I'd be in for one

This would beat waiting and hoping that there will be cancellations from the SH group buy. And even then. it might not be to your exact desired specifications.

true that. but i still need to buy machinery first. and if i do have the machinery, i would true it up myself. no need to pay someone $350 to true it up, if i have the machinery to do it myself.

this group buy needs an ffl as well as Stiller's blessing. i believe he requires a minimum of like 10 actions to get any kind of special pricing. at 10 actions, the discount is very nominal like $25. it's really not worth it, and you should wait for the next one at SH or start posting on the thread and start saying that you will buy out anyone that does not want to go through with the purchase if it's a whatever action.

just buy a 700 action from Randy which is like $350 + $25 dros + $350 to true the action and bolt. $725. cheaper then buying a new custom action which will be like an extra $100 after the dros and shipping fees. only thing you don't get is the "cool" lookn spiral flutes which is more for just cosmetics anyways.

$675 + $25dros + $35ffl fee (minimum) + shipping $20 = $755 minimum. wait time. most ffls will charge up to an additional $75 on top of dros which can go to $830

vs

$350 + $25dros + $350 (truing) = $725 very little wait time, but no spiral flutes on bolt

Ill justorder an SPS-V and sell off the barrel, stock and bottom metal as soon as it arrives then its off to GA for an 1-11.25 tw Flueted 5c barrel. I also got an 1.5 AICS on order, once again hooked up with that price too.

When I told Randy I wanted a stiller action on my build, he quoted me $725 total for the tac 30. $750 with a 20 MOA base from stiller installed. So, you save money in the base, you get a side bolt release and a sako extractor, a thread on bolt handle, and a smooth action. The stiller seems like the much better deal...especially if you don't mind the wait. I didn't want the 3 month wait on top of everything else, so I went with the remmy. It'll probably be the last remmy action I buy. I have an old long action ADL I may build into a 280AI, but thats a ways off. A stiller in 243 Win is higher on my priority list.

You need an 30-06....... If I was to build an 7mm i wouldnt even contemplate anything but an 7WSM. Find an cheap Winchester for the forums, can be had for 350.00 shipped! Sell all the parts and you end up with an 275 + or - .532 boltface action. Then buy some CDI AICS mag bottom metal and an stock.... GTG in my book, I did it. But my M70 was more money then that, and i used it alot.

Phills home for awhile and says hi... His Dad also says hey to you and your Dad.

I figure as much as I shoot right now, Id build an nice 308win.... If i need to shoot matchs at 1k, I have the 30-06 with 210gr VLDS, 300wsm with VLDS (soon to be 7mmwsm) in the T2. I

I have a couple '06s and they do OK. The 280AI is one I can build on the same action I have (the ADL is in '06), same bolt, and drop in an AICS. Should get close to the performance of the 7mmRM with maybe a smidge more barrel life. I don't know what I'd need it for if my main LR rig was a 243 slingin' DTAC's at 3100+. Its all far off at this point. Between my house being built, getting some money together to build a new office, and feeding my current rifles, I don't have a lot to spare.

Tell Phil and Phil hi for me. Tell 'em I miss the get togethers at their place in the summers...and the tons of food they always had.

Its only gona do OK.......... If had 6 30-06 hunting rifles.... THey all did OK! I was never impressed with them, But I will take my new RD rifle out. Im shure it will be impressive. What not to like about 190gr VLDS @ 2900 FPS or 210s @ 2800fps?

They are absent at Brownells and Midway...

Randall,

It's a random thing with them. Basically, if Remington wants to sell them seperately then Brownell's and Midway will carry them. It sucks, but for Remington, they don't really make (as much) money on the actions. They make a butt load though on complete rifles (at least the margins are higher).

If you're good with a Remmy action then pawn shops are the best bet. Otherwise, it's pretty tough to beat the price of the actions from Viper.

Remington stopped supplying both vendors with virgin actions alone, IMHO - fear that they may be losing sales from selling complete rifles, BS IMO, but it is what it is. They would rather have someone buy a adl/sps whatever of their line and strip it down, I guess.

Whatever the case may be with Remington. With manuf. such as Stiller stepping up, its all good with me. But, dont get me wrong, I think a factory trued/squared worked over action, like my first from R&D Precision, will shoot just as well with any custom action in the Tactical game, more the shooter at that point than action. As these Custom sticks from these talented smiths will shoot better than majority of us on our good day, Something like "Its more the Indian than the Bow" Something like that.

Happy Holidays All

I may be in for one LH SA 308 Bolt Face Tac 30 action with 20MOA base.

Depends on how many we can get and how low the price is.

And you may have an almost trued action or a not trued action at all. There is no doubt with a custom action that comes from a CNC.

830.00 which is a very high estimate vs 725.00 Less than a 100.00 for perfection.....worth it in the grand scheme of things in my eyes.

So who is in for what actions.

LOL...aren't you since you were the original topic starter?

I can look into it and see what my FFL says.

We don't have enough folks that wanna bite the bullet on actions yet. I will look more into it if we can get more folks that are serious about actions.

Haha. Yeah.. It was more of a "I'm interested but who has FFL hookup to make this happen" kind of thing. I plan on getting a TAC338 pretty soon.In fact, I need to call Stiller about something right now.
