Default Question regarding Samson Evolution

Put a Samson Evolution 12.5" handguard on my rifle and noticed the top rail doesn't sit flush with my upper's (PSA)rail. It sits up about(my best guess) 1mm or so, just enough to bug me. Is this normal or user error?

Ive used the evolution rails on 3 builds and have never had that. All 3 are flush.

I believe it is, I can only get it to slide on the way they are. If I put them on 180* the handguard won't slide on

On the thermal bushing. The solid cuts should both be on the top, the notches on the bottom. Post up a pic if you have a chance. I jus installed one of these rails today

I put an Evo 9 on girlfriends PSA upper - matches up perfect...

not to imply you did anything wrong, but did you make sure the thermal bushing was installed with half hole on the bottom? I'm not sure it would make a difference for the rail to match up, but I know the instructions state to have half hole on bottom.

Here's this pic for now, I'll take it apart and double check on the bushing tomorrow morning.

It appears either the PSA upper receiver or the Samson top rail is out of spec. Check against some other AR's if you have them to see which one is off.

Checked the thermal bushings they are gtg. Looks k1dude is right, upper or rail is out of spec. Hope it's the rail for conveniences sake. I know the LGS I got it from (Team Big Shot) will take care of me.

I've got one more possible cause maybe you guys could help me troubleshoot....

When I was removing the barrel not to get the delta ring off the spring pushing on the wrench caused it to slide off the nut marring the teeth a little. Could the teeth being chewed up a little cause enough play in the system to do this? I've ordered a new barrel nut anyways so I'll find out later this week one way or another.....

Thanks for the help on this guys

Well, it's the Palmetto upper that's the issue. Took it to LGS today and they mic'd it against three other uppers and the PSA upper's rail was lower than the other three. Guess I'll be calling them tomorrow morning to see what they can do for me.....

On a positive note, Team Big Shot in San Diego has been awesome every time I've visited. Great customer service.

that's so odd... The PSA upper and Samson Evo 9 on my GF's AR mate up perfect:

I guess not all PSA uppers have the same specs

Looks like I'm stuck with an out of spec upper, Palmetto won't take it back since I've had it longer than 30 days. I'm a little disappointed since I've heard their customer service is pretty good.......

strange you have a 12.5, I have one but it says 12.37. I also have the same issue, and I'm hoping its the rail because my upper is a Vltor mur1a. The sides of the rail aren't flush, so if I mount my eotech "bridged" its canted. If I move it to the upper only, it sits flat.
