Default Looking to get some .308 battle rifles

I own a number of handguns, but I really need some rifles. I've thought about an AR, but I'm not sure if want to go that direction.

I'm very interested in a FAl or HK91 style rifle.

Are there others I should be looking at?

Scar 17s - its on my 'after I leave CA' wish list. In the meantime I can built 5 AR 15's with the scar fund.

By AR, I'm assuming you meant no AR-10/LR-308/SR25. Many fine choices in this category.

Ruger GSR. Yep, overpriced; yep, bolt action.

However - light, quick, accurate enough to ding steel out far as you need to. And if ever the shtf; it's about as good a tool as you'll ever want/need...

After you narrow down your selection just make sure you try the rifles out before spending that cash. Nothing like spending all that money and realizing that certain rifle just doesnt meet your expectations. If youre in the socal area, you can try my PTR 91 out if youve got the 308 ammo to burn. Run as much ammo as you want.

M1A Scout Squad is just about the ultimate .308 battle rifle here in CA, as it's CA-Compliant configuration is bullet button free. I name the Scout Squad in particular because the 18" is sort of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Handier than a standard 22", much better range and accuracy than a SOCOM 16".

I have always wanted an M1A scout squad. I even have legitimate pre-ban magazines for it.
I also do not have much interest in the AR platform. I like a traditional rifle grip so much better, especially living in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.
But I have decided not to pursue the M1A mostly for reasons of cost, and if I have to register it (SB 374), it kind of defeats the purpose of having it.
This pushed me to buy the Ruger GSR in Stainless, its fills every role that I need in a rifle except that of a true battle rifle. It is a SHTF rifle, a bug out rifle, a bug in rifle, a hunting rifle, a long range rifle, a durable low maintenance drag through the mud rifle, just not a combat oriented rifle.
However, even though I do not currently have a "battle rifle", I do not feel that I am under-gunned. As I do not see myself storming the streets and engaging in "battle" in a foreign invasion, or civil war. I have guns appropriate for any situation I could see myself needing one, with the exception of bugging out/hunting/backcountry camping in Alaska(,but that is next on the list.)
With that said, if I happen to come across a deal I couldn't pass up on a M1A, well... I probably wouldn't pass it up.

Get a FAL... There are some decent HK91 style rifles, but they are gong to be in the 2k range, decent FAL's are 1400 + . AR-10's can be good. M1a's are good if you get a nice one like a Smith Enterprises.

That one I think is banned by name, if its an RAW you can't sell it in state. If you have an HK PSG1 that isn't registered, you might want to get rid of it asap.

Let me add to the M1A chorus. Once you shoot one, you will know why they are so admired.

Default M1A Loaded MA9826CA Available

Hello Gents,
I wasn't going to post this until next week, but I saw your thread and thought I would offer it up to you now. We have been notified the following (M1A Loaded MA9826CA) will be delivered to us early next week. It's coming direct from Springfield.

The first $1895 takes it. + shipping and 7.5% tax if shipped to CA. We can take CC (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) and I'll pay the 3% fee which saves you ~$60. When it's posted elsewhere next week, the 3% CC fee will be added.

As shown in the pic and at the Springfield link below except it's the California version with the comp.

Springfield's link: http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=45

I'll take calls this Sunday between 9 and 5 as well as M-F next week.

Cheers.

Buy a FG M1 Garand from the CMP and send it to Shuff's to be made into a Mini-G re-barreled for .308:

I've had it since it was new, 30 years ago.
Have the entire set, all 3 barrels, the tripod, the Hensoldt scope, the custom case, the original test targets, all 3 mags, etc etc etc...

Yeah right, I'm getting rid of it on your opinion.

Dude hes trying to help you. The HK PSG1 is banned in Cali. Its in Appendix A of the flow chart that can be viewed at the top of page labeled, CA Semiauto Ban ID Flowchart. It doesnt matter if youve owned it for 30 years. If you didnt register it then its a no go to have.

Great attitude. Just come in here to brag about your special rifle then? The guy was trying to help you, and obviously didn't know the rifle was out of state. Have some class.

Plus one.
or maybe go use the forum dedicated to state your PSG resides in.

Back to the OP. . .

Between the original holy Trinity of battle rifles I like the HK91 pattern the best, but it's probably because of fond memories of it from many many moons ago. I wouldn't cry over having a DSA FAL or USGI M1A either.

As mentioned, if you have the coin, dont miss out on the Scar17

Do they make you get a special ID for that rifle? You must have issued the ID-10-T form for the rifle.

Does everyone think it's fully auto ?
Google is your friend.

Having shot full auto 308/7.62 rifle like the real military M14 and the M60 I know how truly uncontrollable they are......why would I pay for one ?

Sig 716 and/or SCAR 17 make sure you get the FDE as they are more accurate.

No one thinks it's fully auto. CA has a ban that has nothing to do with full auto.

.308 AR variant is my choice for anyone who owns ARs because of parts interchangeability. Other rifles, I like the FAL, Saiga .308, ptr91, scar17. There's also some nice bullpup kits for the M1A and the like, I'd love a nice .308 bullpup.

No, we don't think it's full auto. What we think is you're a douche who has stated on a CA forum that you own a weapon that has been banned by name in CA. I for one hope that you get popped for it, not because I'm jealous of your rifle, nor because I believe in the AW ban or any other anti gun BS coming out of this state. Nope, just because you seem like an A hole, and I don't like A holes.

Sig 716. I just picked one up and it's a beast of a rifle. I was shooting sub moa with iron sights at about 80 meters. It's a little heavy though but I'm sure you'll find most semi auto .308 rifles will be heavy.

I like this thread. Lets keep it on topic.

Get an m14 type rifle. Any m14 type will do.

For 1/3 the cost, get an M1 Garand. It will also do.

By do I mean put a huge smile on your face.
