Yeah, you'll need to put a wooden dowell in the tube to take the place of the extra shells.

Your Shotgun cannot hold more than 3 rounds loaded in any way Chamber included. ie: 2+1. A wooden dowel would suffice.

Would absolutely love to (have a nice collection of 22lr and 223 I would like to take for rabbits), but sadly just saw this and the weekend is booked. Planning any other group/newbie hunts anytime in the future? (sooner than a year out)

If you can make it 2-3 days it's well worth it, just seeing the Sierras is worth the drive alone. The thread is out of my hands, it was Vega who re-listed it and decided to invite people this year.

It's still your project. When we had that text messages I thought you'd never come back and I want to pass along the tradition.

Have fun guys! Wish I could make it this year but I moved to the free state of Virginia!

For the people who missed last year and are going this year it is one heck of a good time. You will make some good friend and have some great times!

On a related note, I'm heading up to the Kennedy Meadows area a bit south/west of Lone Pine. Anyone ever have any luck hunting rabbits in that area?

We just got back from up there and as mentioned by someone else in another thread, it was three days of rough weather. We ended up seeing a handful of rabbits, but did not get a chance to shoot at any. I think everything was spooked in the Valley from the storms. The storms should be clearing out, so maybe that will help with the numbers.

I did shoot a few ground squirrels, but they were at various places. We also did some predator calling up north and drew blanks.

Here are a couple of pictures from up there:

The morning we arrived finally brought out the sun, after raining almost the entire way up there:

Here is a panorama of a column of rain moving up the valley. The rain caused flooding in the desert areas it hit:

Here is a shot in the late afternoon as the storm clouds gathered over the Eastern Sierra:

This is a screen-shot from a video I took of a storm that was moving over an area we just hunted. It's hard to wander a mile or so from your truck knowing this could be on top of you in minutes:

Winchester Model 43 in .22 Hornet leaning against a wall at an old stagecoach stop:

We headed home after only shooting 3 ground squirrels.

Hey all I'm here. We got in around 3pm. Weathers not to bad. I'll be taking the rhino out early morning to explore with the 17hmr. Then when I get back going to the river for some fishing. If anyone is out here or coming early shoot me a PM so we can hook up.

Eric: Thanks for the pics and the weather report.

Vega: Tell me if I should PM you but what time are you guys starting on Saturday?

I'm thinking of a one day run (and gun) so I'd need to know what time you guys are going to meet, if one more is welcome.

I've never been rabbit hunting and LOL, somehow I have a gap in my lineup so I'll either be using a .223, a 12 gauge, or a .177 air rifle.

I saw that you'll be on the south side of Tuttle Creek Campground, using channel 7. Is that FMRS or CB?

The weather was a little windy yesterday, but died down once the sun went down. This morning is nice the wind is barely blowing and sunrise is beautiful.

Went out this morning behind the RV park. Only say a couple of Jacks. Drove the Rhino about 15miles. When I got back packed up the kids and went fishing. We got one bass and couple bites. My daughter was so happy. Headed back out this evening.......

I have fished that darn flood gate several times and could only manage to catch a few Crawdads. Congrats on the catch and I hope your kids are having a good time. For the Wife take a drive up to Onion valley, take your camera. It's just above independence a few miles.

Well we are back and it was not so good as far as Rabbits and Dove are concerned but just being in the beautiful surroundings overcomes all the short comings.

As for Cal Gunners I was privileged to meet up with a couple real good guys from the 1st and 2nd hunt, always a pleasure,Thanks. Three new guys showed up though only two were available to hunt and BS with while one showed up a few days earlier and had to leave the day I arrived. Thanks guys for the camaraderie and all that goes with it, had lot's of laughs and fun.

I was there for the dove opener along Shepard Crk and Symmes Crk. Weather did settle down enough to bag 7 dove, lost 1, so should have been 8. Damn it!
Didn't see any other shooters but heard some distant shots. Maybe you fellas or some other hunters I didn't see. Ain't the Owens Valley great!?

When I checked this area I only saw about 50 birds if that, the weather played havoc and it down poured in Independence Sat night.

The Valley and the Mountains are Spectacular.

We all had a great time seeing the scenes and shooting the breeze, if not the rabbits and doves (we did get one). We'll get more another time!

Thanks to Toby and Vega for organizing and to all the others I had the pleasure of hanging out with. This was a weekend well spent.

Pleasure meeting sundo, theshoer and toby.

We got rained on Friday night and we were totally caught off guard in our tent. We have the windows open as it was hot that night. Saturday and Sunday were hot and sunny but no rabbits in sight. We hanged out in one alfalfa field hoping to see rabbits hopping to the field. No rabbits this time but I know I will be back.

On fishing side, I got 2 trouts and 1 bass on Saturday which we ate the following day and limit out on trouts Sunday and Monday. Krypto got 5 trouts on Saturday.

Gatcha - too bad we were not able to meet up with you, there will be other times.
