Handpick. Over the years I bought 4 mosins, 3 hp, 1 not. The 3 hp were much better.

^^^^^^So be it. Handpick it is. Strangely enough, I've only ever payed for handpick once or twice at most. All others I've ordered online have been grab bag.

I paid the extra hoping to avoid a mixmaster and/or cracked stock.

So all the handpicks, inevitably someone is going to end up getting the best of the worst. haha.

LCU, I'd think the detachable mags would be the way to go. i don't know if the emergency and tactical reloads are going to be performed as a bolt action would, or if you would need to put a stripper clip in and slam them down.

And a type 3........I guess you'd drop the rounds out the bottom, then rack, rack, rack? I was wondering the same thing about how that would be performed on a Garand.

The ones I have seen in the past were labeled as "Fair", and these ones are listed as "Good", and just assuming Century was the one who labeled these, I am just hoping that surface rust and cracked stocks aren't going to be part of the equation, as that seems to be the difference in their grading.

I was kinda hoping there would be more vendors offering Chi-com SKS', like a few more boatloads were dropped off and everyone would have them, but so far it is only Classic and SOG (but theirs are listed as cracked stocks).

Can somebody educate me about why these are legal in CA? My FFL isn't sure, and I want to make certain I've got this straight before I press "buy."

^^^Because there's nothing "evil" about it. No detachable mag, no pistol grip etc. Follow the flowchart.

it is a semi-automatic centerfire riflle that does not have a detachable magazine. it is over 30" OAL. It isn't on any name ban lists. why wouldn't it be legal?

consult the flowchart for more info, http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf

Bingo, I thought "box mag" meant detachable box mag, so I went to "Schedule B and C" freaked out because "Type 56" is there. It took me more than an hour on Google to figure out that "Type 56 carbine" really is a completely different weapon from "Type 56 rifle."

Thanks for the help.

ahh you got mixed with the "Type 56" AK-47 imported from Uncle Mao. Don't worry I made the mistake too and it can get confusing.

If anything, get a letter from the place you got it from saying it is qualified as C&R and that should put your mind at ease.

Well, this latest batch available from Classic Firearms are not CAI imports. The ones the brown truck delivered today are IO Inc imports.
BTW, Classic has 613 in stock so if you're on the fence, buy now!!

So far, I've seen on other threads of people getting matching Russian, true Sino-Soviets and 5 digit without /26\ stamps.

Hopefully he knows BUT you'd be surprised at how many 03 FFL's, don't even know proper record keeping, or suddenly they think they can "buy and sell" Ad Lib. You should discuss it with him, if he is audited by the BATF they WILL look at the number of Acquisitions and Dispositions he has made since he got his license when they look at his book and they DO review your book, been there done that. Also when he renews his license he has to declare how many firearms he has Acquired and Disposded of in the preceding 3 years. When they look at the A&D book seeing the same name pop up with VERY short acquisition to disposition dates doesn't that look like someone is running a business or something fishy might be going on? If I sell a C&R it would have been in my book at least 6 months or more before being transfered to another FFL. Only done one FTF C&R transfer that was 10 years ago, all others have been sent to 01 or 03 FFLs. Like others have suggested get your 03 FFL then you can go shopping out of state after Jan 1, 2014

My brother bought two of these hand picked. Both were five digits w/o the /26\ marked IO as the import mark. One had 90% metal and light dings in the stock, the other had about 75% metal and light dings in the stock, but a crack in the wrist. Both are all matching with cleaning rods. No cleaning kit in the stock on either. It's going to be hard for me to not order one, particularly when these are going to be $6-$800 each in 4 1/2 months.

I cant find a place in cr rules where me buying 5 rifles and selling 4 at my costs while collecting the best one is forbidden by Ffl03. Buy as many as you can and take the cream from the top.

I don't have unrealistic expectations, but if I get one that is rusted or really pitted or especially with a broken stock I will throw a fit with Classic.

Obviously not. If it did, I'd create two threads for it. Only so people could tell me that many more times how awesome my rifle was.

Did get two rifles from this batch today.

One is a matching Russian letter gun with replacement main wood, but what is probably the original laminate handguard.

The other is an interesting one. Mismatched receiver cover, but the rest of the gun has no markings other than SN. No Chinese characters, no factory code. Just the SN. Very strange lack of acceptance stamps as well. This one has a heel repair on the stock, and a huge crack at the top of the main stock at the back by the buttplate. I'd love this gun if it wasn't for the stock. Trying to figure out if I want to have it go back for replacement, or keep and and deal with it. Very strange.

Both are IO Inc guns.

Very, very different than the CAI guns that were shipped out a few months back.

That is very good!

I was going to post a third thread, but I'll just bump the other ones once or twice a day until I get banned again.

Quick shot of the letter gun. Very cool to have this show up. So.......Russian gun imported from China that came from Albania and Vietnam? OK. The water has become more murky with this latest batch of stuff from Classic.
