Default Sig 522 in CA

All of the Sig product pages (eg http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProdu...g522-swat.aspx) say CA-compliant: No - however several people seem to have/be selling these, and the AW ban doesn't cover rimfires currently. Have Sig just got this wrong, assuming you get the 10-round version?

I think the Cal. 522s are made compliant by a third party other than Sig.My 556 was.

Folding stock probably puts it under 26 inches
Federally they measure this from fully open.
California they measure this from most compact.

No idea if its really under 26 when folded but thats my guess..
People selling them probably have the stock fixed open somehow.

I have heard that SIG is pretty cautious when it comes to dealing with CA. I remember reading they would not send someone a standard magazine release for a rifle even though that person was trying to turn the rifle featureless

EDIT: According to this thread they are 26.1 folded so that is not the issue. Probably just SIG being over cautious..

That's odd. It was CA compliant when I bought mine last year at Big5.

It's probably a typo since Sig offers a model with 25rd mags. The 10rd version is gtg, even with the stock folded it's over 26".

Got mine at a BIG5 in the Sacramento area recently and it has a welded (nice almost invisible welds) flash hider, ten round smoke colored BD plastic lipped mag, and came with front/rear sight kit and rail kit. Stock does fold and adjust to three positions, also came with slim rubber buttpad installed and larger one to swap if needed. Compliant? Yes.

The sig website sucks - here's the full list of CA-legal Sig rifle variants, including the two 522 models: http://www.sigsauer.com/upFiles/CmsC...02-19-2013.pdf

Bought one for $480 at Big 5 this weekend. Also I lucked out and was able to pick up a 555 round box of Winchester hollow points. Now all I need is a sight and extra mags.

In case anyone else is curious, the differences for the CA version appear to be:

- stock isn't telescoping - fixed length (it still folds though)
- no replacement thicker butt-pad for the stock
- 10-round magazines
- includes rail kit
- includes iron sights

My stock telescopes and folds. But it didn't come with iron sights.

Sorry I was wrong. Mine did come with iron sights. Found them in the box underneath the Styrofoam. I almost threw them away on accident.

I have the CA 522. It does have a telescoping stock. I wanted the fixed swiss style, when I was checking the rifle out I asked the guy to make sure that I would be getting a non telescoping stock from the stock in the back. He got upset and said that's how they come... I had to cut him off and tell him thats what I preferred. 10 day wait over go to pick up the rifle the first thing I notice is the stock is telescoping (I'm super bummed, super bummed, not what I had in mind). They tried to tell me that if I wanted the other one I would have to DROS agin (pay DROS fee again). Thanks but no thanks, I have to pay more, wait more cause you screwed up? The told me to call sig and ask them to give me the swiss stock (in my head I'm like Sig didn't make the mistake).m In their defense the guy helping me at pick up was different than the guy who started my DROS, and they were very apologetic about the mistake (apologies don't fix mistakes, but I'm glad they showed empathy).

If anyone wants to swap a non telescoping for a telescoping please send me an PM, I would be glad to give you the telescoping if that is your preference!

I put the side rails on because I didn't like the looks of those holes, but probably will never mount anything on the sides. The bottom angled rail looks odd and breaks up the nice shape of the forend, IMHO, but if I want to use a bipod on it I will end up re-installing it.

Just order one from SIG or maybe check AMAZON? TOP GUN has them if SIG's shipping blows.

What sights are you running there? Any install issues with the front sight?

Looks like a Primary Arms micro red dot with a riser for 1/3 co-witness.

I ended up putting on a quad rail just because of the limited selection of after-market backup sights.

I much prefer the standard handguard, but the MI flip-up felt really loose when 'locked' up - the Magpul MBUS Gen 2 is worth the slightly inferior foregrip.

I emailed magpul, and they said the MBUS Pro /might/ be available for the 556/522 gas block fitting - if so, I'll almost certainly take off the quad-rail.

Just got the sights recently when i lost a part to the stock ones.Front sight is the Samson 556/522 flip, rear is a magpul. Finally got to try them out and the front is a little too high to match with a standard ar rear buis, so im gonna file down the front post or get a short rear riser. To be cont...... (Midwest also makes a front flip buis with similar height issues)

Otherwise install was easier than the stock 522 front buis

Good news about the MBUS PRO. I hope they do one for the 522.

I have the factory front sight installed, but no rear sight. I am still trying to figure how I want it setup. I have a Sightmark Ultra NVQD on the rifle, and a new TRS-25 in the box as an option. I bought the TRS-25 for the 522, but I might end up leaving the Sightmark in place and putting the TRS on my MKII Governement Target or something else. I have a QD riser for the TRS-25 if I want to leave the front sight on for looks, but really I just want functional open sights on the rifle at all times (that do not block the optical sight), and a QD optic that I can remove quick. Plan C would be to just flatop it and scope it with decent low mag scope mounted as low as possible.

So I called around wanting one of these bad boys and surprise surprise found one locally at Annie's Guns in Fremont. It's a Swat model too. Jailed it
Will most likely just get a Bushnell TRS25 red dot and a Magpul RVG foregrip on it and be done with it.

Awesome find! I wish mine had the non telescoping stock like yours.

Really nice rifle you have there. I have a trs-25 an mine as well, both good choices!

Congratulations

Also, if any of you find the safety kind-of-awkward, I strongly recommend the Krebs extended safety for 55X - works fine for the 522 too:

Another word of caution, if your sig does come with irons be very careful with the rear sight. I stripped mine when my new sights came in and had to take it to a gunsmith for removal (ouch!).

Also mfiap.com has some iron sight options that will fit the 522. A little taller than what sig supplied, but shorter than AR sights. With the factory sights I got a lower 1/3 co-witness with my trs-25 on a .5" riser (busy sight picture though). The MFI sight give me an absolute co-witness with the same .5" riser (MFI sights flip out of the way). You can get the pair of MFI for about $90. MFI sights are not adjustable for elevation and are produced as BUIS. They are calibrated for poa/poi 50-75 yards (22lr) and 100-150 yards (5.56), and work on the 522 and 556.

The MFI rear sight will not work with the sig factory front sight. But the MFI front sight will line up with an H&K 416 rear diopter sight (you just won't have a hood on the front post)

Personally I love diopter sights and much prefer the look of the sig hooded front sight, just wish there were more options to line up with it.

For you guys having trouble with the front sight check out mfiap.com for instructions on installation (same as sig FSP) he has some pointers for installing the roll pin. I personally decided to not use the roll pin, and after the FSP was centered I used blue loctite on the screws to keep it all together (I can still adjust windage on my rear sight)

I'm back on the classic handguard, and Sig sights. Alternative way to install the front sight pin without filing it down: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...php?p=12209726

I'll share a pic of mine. I might pull off the Magpul mbus 2 and take the riser off the tr-25.
