Looks like a cool lil unit. Im not sure it's worth $200. There's a small monthly monitoring fee too.
Lets you know by text or email... Safe door opening and closing Safe movement Rising and lowering of safe interior temperatures, Notification when your SAFELERT'S batteries are low Hourly check's your wireless connection to make sure it's connected. If not it sends you an alert! ![]() http://www.libertysafe.com/accessory...-17-pg-85.html |

Worth is relative. Do you have $200 gun in a $150 gun "safe" or do you have 4-10K + worth of guns and a $1200+ safe? Lets face it, buying 4K worth of guns these days is not a hard thing to do. Hell a few ARs and a medium priced shotgun can touch that price total. Also depends on what your guns are worth to you and how badly do you want to keep them secured?
If you never worry about someone breaking in and stealing your guns and valuables is not important to you then don't get one. If what you own means something to you and you have important things you at least want to deter or possibly catch someone if they are trying to steal it then get it. Look at it this way. You are on vacation with your wife. Nobody is home. You can either get a text that the heat is rising in the safe and someone opened the door/tampered with the safe OR you can find out about it when you get home from vacation and you walk in. |

It's a Wi-Fi device, which means that if your Internet is down, you basically get no alerting at all. For charging for a "monitoring fee", I'd really expect cellular service, as the little box could handle all the emailing on-board, no "cloud" required. Probably could make one out of a Raspberry Pi to do exactly that, and probably under the $200 cost.
If you have a monitored alarm, you could just add a couple of wireless nodes to that (fire + heat sensor in the room, and a wireless door closure sensor), assuming the room isn't alarmed to begin with... That'd probably have better value, as at least it'd trigger the alarm. |
