This was reported by the LA Times:

Firefighters later found the bodies of two men inside the house. Police sources, who requested anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said the men were Samir Zawahri, 55, the owner of the house, and one of his adult sons. A second son is suspected of being the shooter, the sources said.

Maybe that explains why they are not releasing the name of the son and why the FBI is involved?

So, he has mental health issues and was in possession of a firearm. Doesn't California have laws against this? Oh yeah, we do.
He had an "assault weapon" with 30 round detachable mags. Doesn't California have laws against this? Oh yeah, we do.
He entered a gun free zone with a gun. Doesn't California have laws against this? Oh yeah, we do.
Hmmm...gun control failed...again.
But all those victims obeyed the gun laws. What's wrong with this picture?

Well they now say it was the younger brother John Zahawri. They also said the mental problems and hospitalization happened when he was under 18 so they are sealed.

so next time you see a crazy person, just kill them and save us trouble down the road. outlaw crazy people, not guns! especially those white, asian, lebanese crazy people with cornrows, dreadlocks and a full swat outfit. don't let them own fully-automatic high-cap belt-fed ark-15-16-47s that fire shotgun shells. how much should we bet that the cops never hit him and he killed himself? really tired of hearing this kind of story and the "answers" they come up with are not answers at all. once they totally disarm this state it WILL be mexico and we'll have to defend ourselves with rocks and sh*t. bad news is just getting old, especially when nothing productive is being done to end it. take the troops we brought home from iraq/afghan, and turn them loose in the worst areas to go house-to-house and get rid of bad guys. it worked there and by damn it'll work here. all the cops do is give tickets and shoot up the wrong people. bring in somebody who can do it right! wouldn't take but a few weeks before there'd be no more "gang" problems, among other things. get a runner in a car? don't send the CHP, they'll drop their damn guns on the way, send a cobra or apache and turn 'em into a crater. let's face it, wouldn't make the roads here any worse either, and endanger less people in the process. how crazy do I sound?

The only silver lining is that this is a mental sicko and probably a prohibted person. We need to steer the crazy legislstors towards mental health restrictions. The not one inch mentality is proven BS, steer your enemies to do less damage and focus on mental health...

yeah only an stripped upper..no bolt or charging handle..and what looks like a black powder pistol..and in the pic on RT.com the mags look like they are blue...and they also say he had an extra receiver...still not sure why they would have the lower and upper separated..thats a little odd..maybe they wanted to remove the bullet button before they showed it to us..or add one as the case may be...

Just remember, "mental illness" takes many forms and there are MANY types of mental illnesses, including types that do not result in violent behavior. Painting all mental illnesses as violent just is not the case.

When blanketing all mental illnesses as reason for prohibiting anything---well, just be careful for what you wish for.

Until the authorities state just what his "treatment" was for, we are just speculating. We don't know the motive yet.

Respectfully
Kyle

Default So was he seen pushing a dolly?

While he was shooting?

The one article implied that he had 1300 rounds of ammo on his person.

40 lbs of ammo? I doubt it.

Everyone knows that guns are not allowed in Gun Free School Zones, therefore this news report is obviously false.

some pics of the mags he had near the bottom...I would say most are post sb23 mags which means he illegally imported or bought them out of state.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...icle-1.1366943

what i think is interesting is the photos of him casually walking into the school..you can see he knew there would be no opposition to what he was doing..at least until police showed up..

It is strange that they have not showed the complete rifle. Where is the lower? Doubt it has a BB.

Can't be certain those GI aren't rebuilds.

Note the bright blue mags. I think they are from Keep Shooting.

http://www.keepshooting.com/colored-...-magazine.html

I dont think they sell rebuilds. They also are post 2000. So either private party rebuild sale then manufacture, import, or who knows, stolen...

I think this was a spare upper he was carrying. They didn't show the weapon he used in the shooting.

A full rifle was visible in a grainy surveillance photo.

That is a disconcerting possibility.
There is no way to know for certain now, but its possible the attacker did his homework and understood the spree killers in Aurora and Wyoming both suffered jams with their ARs which immobilized the weapons.

Thus, the spare upper receiver.

who do they go tell? the police won't have much authority, with no crime having already been committed...knowing someone behaves oddly is a slippery slope when it comes to trying to get them help/evaluated...not all oddly behaving people go on shooting rampages either...we're looking at a very hard thing to control, and, probably even more difficult to profile, especially when it comes to determining someone's ability to function in a normal society

I still lean toward acceptance, understanding, that, we are forever saddled with having mentally unbalanced individuals in our lifetimes...there are always going to be a certain percentage of people who come into this world with bad wiring...I think its just a fact we are all going to have to accept at some point...I don't think there is any remedy to predicting who is about to snap and endanger people's lives with a firearm...you would need a crystal ball

lastly, we need to be very careful when it comes to connecting mental health and firearms...people will eventually get railroaded...just get a few state doctors willing to say someone is mentally unfit and POOF, gun rights go right out the window...also, I don't totally buy into the mental health fix-all...we have many degenerate people in our society who just don't have any moral regard for human life...you have gang bangers who would just as soon put a bullet through your head, as to, smile at you...they have no regard, and, I wouldn't necessarily put them in a class of being mentally unstable...that's just an insult to people with legitimate mental challenges...they are just degenerates with no values
