Holy cow...those offhand pistol results are scary! Does the man have a steel rod running through that arm or what!

"Why yes, yes I do" I have just been shooting Bullseye Pistol competitions for about 25 years with my trusted Browning Buckmark Silhouette. Thanks for the compliment.

Stepped up my game a little bit this week! Messed a little with my stock tension screws and they seem to tighten up a bit when I loosen the screw.

CZ 452 Trainer
Remington Golden Bullet
Rifle - 25 Yard Iron Sights
Total Score: 222

Nice shooting there
It's great to see what good rifle shooters can do, that's what keeps me going back to the range and putting in the time and effort to improve my own scores.

Thanks 10xHobby.

On a side note, I sighted in my Nikon 6.5x20 Monarch scope on my first gun I bought for myself which is my Savage Model 11 in .243. I think it got some pretty nice groups shooting the same target. Here is a 5-shot group with it.

Here's my pistol entry for June.
15y Offhand - 97

This is a pretty good score for me. Definitely the best target for today. I started today by shooting my new pistol - a Ruger LCR .22LR which is double action only. She's a good shooter but no target pistol. Switching to the Victor was like swinging a 30 oz bat after using a weighted warm up bat. HUGE difference.

I'm hoping to get to the rifle range next week. Anybody else?

Nice shooting! I really wish I could try out a match accurate 22lr pistol as most of the ones I can rent at the range have horrible grouping even at 7 yards. Then again, I am typically shooting crappy bulk ammo out of them. I guess I shouldn't expect CZ rifle performances with bulk ammo out of a pistol.

Thanks! It's the indian, not the arrow as they say but not even the best shot can make crappy ammo be accurate.

We should connect and you can shoot the High Standard as much as you want. She's definitely a better gun than I am shooter. You'll get a sense of what's possible. Aren't you in South OC?

For sure, I definitely look forward to it!

I recently just got qualified for my High Power Rifle card at OnTarget, so now I can essentially fire any firearm I want there. From .22LR up to 50Cal.

That CZ452 Trainer is a great looking rifle, and it shoots well. I have some Lapua Center X and Eley Target ammo on the way to try in the Mossberg S42 M Training rifle. The Mossberg seems to shoot well so we will feed it some good ammo and look for an improvement.
On a side note the new AR15 I just finished worked well and at 25 yards it was putting 3 and 4 round groups through the same hole, I think that's a good start. Can't wait to get it outside and see what she will do.

That is actually a project I am gonna start soon, my first AR15 build. I had a M&P 15-22 and I know it isn't an ar, but the lower assembly is very similar aside from some small dimensional differences.

Which barrel you end up getting for the AR? What kind of twist rate you using? I plan to spend the next few months acquiring parts as I am planning to only use the highest quality parts available. Probably gonna end up with lots of DD, LaRue, Mega, Stag, and Spike stuff.

For 25, 50 and 100 yard irons - aren't folks supposed to be indicating off/free or bench?

No, that's only for pistol. Most people shoot rifle from a bench here

So now instead of Rimfire Monthly, it's Bench Rest Rimfire Monthly?

...cause my 25 yard posting will be without the use of a sandbag or structural rest.

So today was a lot of work and a lot of fun. It was so much time consuming work I had no time to do pistol.

Today it was very windy at Metcalf, with mostly clouds interrupted with occasional sunshine. So we had the wind screwing with our bullets and the sun playing with our sights.

I also got muzzle swept so many times in the last hour I lost count...

50 Yard Irons - Windy and Cloudy - Bench Rest
Score = 48

Intermediate wind was left to right. I over-compensated most of the time. The gentleman next to me with his Browning Lever Action under-compensated. Sometimes the wind "pulled" the bullet up a hair - but not much. You can see the left side bias in the results...

100 Yard Irons - Windy and Cloudy - Bench Rest
Score = 28

In this case as explained by one of the Range Officers, the open field wind is a pass through swirl than can literally flat-line a bullet or even give it a little lift.

So I had to wait...wait...yawn....wait...wait...yawn...shoot.. .

It took a hell of a long time...but some of the results were down right funny. One time during a high wind I purposely aimed 2 inches below the target and ended up 3 inches above the target. Guy next to me offered his 7.62 with a smile telling I was crazy trying to shoot .22 LR @ 100 yards on a windy day.

25 Yard Irons - Low Wind and Sun - Offhand / Freehand (No Bags / Rest)
Score = 127 (Submitted in Protest)

At this point in time, the facility was jam-packed - all bags, blocks and chairs were gone. So I was left with having to shoot without a rest.

This target as I explained earlier not only is scaled down too much - but it also introduces a "brain artifact". The moment I focus and sight on the middle two targets - they disappear only to be replaced by very very faint grey smudges. The 3 left and 3 right targets meanwhile are crystal clear - though too small - can aim AT but not WITHIN. For the middle 2 targets, I was having to use the surrounding targets to guess where they were.

The May 25 Yard Irons is a superior target...can aim within and no brain artifact introduced.

I tried out Wolf Match Extra today. I will say that it performs exactly the same as Eley Target - but for a $1.75 more per Box / 50. I'll be sticking with Eley Target for future purchases.

As to the muzzle sweeps - it was a couple adults. They placed their cases on the ground sideways. Pulled 'em out - fiddled with them - while waving them in all direction except downrange for a good 1-2 minutes apiece. Fortunately a Range Officer spoke with them soon afterward.

Coolest thing of all today is that at one point about 1/5 of all in attendance were kids shooting .17's and .22's.

=8-)

mrrabbit: Your lower 50yd target has two touching for a bonus of 2 points, score of 24, total of 50 points.

Actually, there are several spots where it LOOKS like they are touching on several of my targets...

...however if you were with me in person - very close examination would show otherwise.

On my 25 yard for example, I even labelled one "Awww..." I really wanted that 4 points.

I believe rifle irons are shot at whatever position you feel like, all though mine are shot free standing.

Finally got around to shooting a set tonight at dusk. Offhand (kneeling) at 25yds, Kimber 82G with aperture (front post insert 'cause I like it), Eley club. Groups are nothing compared to when Izzy helped me sight it in on his rest, despite the wind that day, but good enough for squirrels. 164 if my math is right. Expect more in the future. These pistol targets really have me contemplating trading in my Walther p99 in for a .22 pistol...

Nice Kimber. She sure does shoot. Are they all single shot rifles?

I realize now that the 50y target was supposed to be 3 shots.
Oh well, at least I had 3 good shots per target.
