Maybe.... depends on what you mean by "like minded"

I Think Marin Co. would be an interesting place to be in a SHTF situation. My family has a small house over there and I have contemplated setting it up as a bug out location. Even though the population is very small in the area that the house is located (about 30 min from Novato), I feel that it maybe to risky with the amount of tourism constantly in the area.

Marin would be a great place to pillage in a SHTF situation. Nothing but a bunch of wealthy, helpless folks who hate guns and aren't prepared unless Whole Foods is open.

Kent Lakes Wilderness could keep an experienced outdoorsman alive for years. Marin Co. is water-independent and its all up there in the deep canyons.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. Not so much about pillaging, but in most parts of America, if SHTF, everyone will have guns, and they will all be out in the woods hunting anything edible. LA would be terrible, of course. But SF is so heavily liberal, and anti-gun, full of vegans, etc, that I think very few people there would have any ability to hunt or survive in the wilderness. And even if you did encounter some city-dwellers, they are more likely to have peaceful intentions, and not be as well-armed as many of us are. I do agree that living in a more remote wilderness is ideal. But if you still want some city access, it might be nice to be somewhat close to a large city, but still have quick access to wilderness, if SHTF.

I have been looking into the best place to retire to, and that area seemed pretty interesting. I like the city, but Los Angeles is just a disaster waiting to happen. So I like the idea of being reasonable driving distance to a larger city, but be living in a place where living off the land is actually do-able. The wilderness areas around Portland are also on the radar. Especially since Oregon has better gun laws...

Ha, I'm from Marin. It would be super safe to bug out in compared to other places. The people are sheep and the hills are filled with turkeys and deer and plenty of water.
