Default Sac County now gives the permit on the final appointment

No more waiting 2-4 weeks for the mail after your final appointment. If you bring in all the required papers to your final appointment, starting today they hand you the permit on the spot. Perfect timing!

They also mentioned that they were doing interviews three days a week now; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I thought they only did them one day (Tuesdays) up till now, but not sure.

Make sure you have all the paperwork. Otherwise you go back into the mail system.

Just quoting what others have told me.

From the Sheriffs site:

Quote:
Step 6 - During your "Concealed Weapons Permit Issuance" appointment, you will need to turn in all of your training requirements, a money order or cashier’s check for $80 payable to "County of Sacramento", provide two (2) current pieces of proof of current residency (ie: utility bill, home owners insurance, lease agreement, etc) unless provided during initial appointment and sign the final permit documents. After this is completed, you will receive your permit in the mail within 2-4 weeks.

I'm getting my money order tomorrow, I have my qualification papers. Am I missing anything?

I emailed them my 2 proofs of address after my first appointment so I don't think I need to take them in on the final.

You need to fill out the final appointment form here:

http://www.sacsheriff.com/organizati...PPOINTMENT.pdf

I would bring your two proofs of residence, only because he asked if I had already given mine at the first appt (which I had) but he still took and kept the copies I brought with me at the final. Better safe than sorry.

Just got home from my final appointment. It didn't take long at all.

I have my premit. And it doesn't fit in my wallet.

Can I scan it into photoshop and shrink it enough to fit in my wallet?

Same here. I needed a new wallet so I bought a larger one on the way home, but it still won't fit in the credit card slots. I'd be curious if it's legal as a copy.

No idea why they make it so large. For now mine is in the money section.

I scanned a copy and made 2 copies and kept one on my computer in case I lose original. I keep a spare copy in each car glove box in case I dotn have my origainl. I belive having at least a copy is better then.. Yes officer .. I really have one ....

The original is what I carry- I laminated it and folded it in half. I don't use a wallet but a money clip- few hundred dollars/ two credit cards and my Drivers license.

I'm pretty sure they do. Another guy was there and he was renewing and I'm pretty sure they handed him his new one before we went downstairs. Unless it was his old one

I took the plunge and folded the permit to fit in my wallet. It's right behind my driver's license.

This is good news! My final appointment is coming up and I scheduled the Friday after off, so I could wait out front mow the yard and not miss the mail man.
What size is the permit? Can it be 'trimmed' a little, to fit in a standard wallet?

They folded mine and laminated it at the Sheriffs station. I thought about removing the permit from the plastic so I could fold it up smaller to fit behind my license, but for now it's as received and kept in the billfold area.

sweet

although mine came a day later, which isnt that bad either

i do think adding an extra day for interviews is a great idea.

Quick question though when you come into the sheriff station are you allowed to conceal carry? Can you clear/leave your firearm in the front or must you leave it in the vehicle?

Pretty sure it says no firearms allowed on the front door from the street. They will ask you several times at the front desk about all types of weapons from guns to pepper spray. I do NOT think you can leave a weapon at the front desk.

This. Don't be that guy. Why would you need to? If you get shot walking across the street from the parking garage you just have bad luck.

The lady at the desk asked me if I had any grenades. Not sure if she was joking or not. But I wanted to say no I forgot it today. Seeing that it was my last appointment I decided against it.

When she got to the fourth or fifth item on her list the couple next to me at the counter started laughing. I understand why they ask though......... after my initial interview, two days later I got a call from an officer. He asked me if I forgot my pepper spray in the upstairs outer waiting room. I told him "no". Then he asked if one of my buddies that were there with me might have left it, and I told him that I came in alone. He then said "good answer".

I'd guess if they figured out who brought it in, their CCW is toast.

My father when he was with Sac City PD used to ask (any guns, knives, hand grenades or flame throwers?).

Galt City Police is a different issuing agency from Sac County Sheriff, and has been doing this for sometime. SSO is just catching up.

At any rate, it's good to see agencies moving to a more immediate process (it also saves them money in mailing and postage costs).

Now if only we could get some "legitimate" looking CCW/LTC cards like most other states have. You know the ones with your picture on it and look like a credit card/ID card.

THIS.

It's ridiculous that Kalifornia doesn't.

So is SSD not laminating them any more? They're just giving you the rice-paper?

For those that have laminated cards, there's nothing that says you can't cut down the lamination, to make it fit your wallet. Just leave some around the edges, so it doesn't come a part.

They still laminate them. The laminating film is also thicker/better than it was two years ago.
