Hello All!

I am looking for a place to go free shooting out in the hills. I am located in Riverside CA. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah - its not that we're not listening - its just that there really aren't many (any) good choices. You can contact BLM and try to play hide and seek with their pathetic maps.

I've found that there is NO legal shooting in Riverside County

You could go out into the boonies, or East RivCo, but why waste the money when we have Lytle Creek Firing Line

San Bernardino has more places in the high desert

Here's BLM's site saying it's legal: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/rec...n/hunting.html

Here's one for Barstow area... which, to me, contradicts the previous site as it says what areas are legal for SHOTGUNs only. Maybe that's just a "within city limits" thing? http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/barstow/recshoot.html

That would be cool man, but I hear ESRI management are a bunch of a-holes... don't get caught.

I literally just joined calguns right now so I'd be able to reply to this post. I've obviously heard of calguns but had no idea what it really is until I visited the site today for the 1st time. I've been shooting for a few years now and was recently given directions to this beautiful shooting location about a year ago. In the year that I've been shooting here, I've only run into other shooters twice. I'm afraid not many responsible shooters know about this place but there sure are a lot of jack@sses that do. I make it a point to clean up every time we go out there. I've brought home TRUCK LOADS of garbage. TV's, spare tires, stuffed animals, helmets, you name it. I'm honestly a little skeptical about posting directions or any info as to where it is if the "general public" can see this as I did. There are in fact a couple of BLM "free ranges" off of Gavilan. My folks live right down the street off cajalco. I make it to point to visit them as much as possible when I'm free. haha. Like I said, I'm new to calguns and don't exactly know the rules or what's common courtesy and what's not. Sorry if it's rude or what have you for not posting directions on the thread itself. If you PM me and swear to me on your guns you'll be good to this spot, I'll tell you exactly how to get there. I'm actually taking some family members out there next Saturday, June 8th, to shoot for their 1st time. You're more than welcome to join and help clean up after.

I would highly recommend reading through the actual Riverside County Ordinance #514 and find out for yourself what is actually legal. The ordinance is not very long or complicated.

Gavilan spot is being shut down. Too much trash, and shooters were shooting over the road. Local residents are really upset about the trash. Sheriff's are also going to start enforcing no off-road riding in the area.

As soon as the off-road squad is back in action. They are pulling their KTM's out of mothballs and getting them ready. Probably already started as I have seen a dramatic drop in riders and shooters.

FYI Here is a google earth of the riverside area and where shooting/Hunting is allowed.

Are you saying Steele Peak is being shutdown, or the area around CSC?

Steel peak is BLM land. So far it is staying open. The cleanups are helping keep it open. The other area is not BLM. It is mostly private property and WRCMSHCP.

Do NOT post any directions in open forum! Just use PMs.
If you look around this sit , you will see those of us that plan cleanups of BLM land to keep it open. I am down in SD, but I wouldn't mind planning a cleanup in southern riverside county if anyone knows of any locations.

Summer time isn't the best time for cleanups in South Riverside because of the heat. If you all are willing to bear the heat I'm in whenever you guys want. I actually PM'd a organizer/contributor last month about a formal CG cleanup day and never got a response back. It would be nice to get a CG footprint out there where I go.

BLM - Barstow area has some reasonably large desert shooting spots.

Checkout legal shooting maps on San Bernardino County Fish & Game Commission site.
