Muzzle rise is the only reason I use a brake

Here's what I don't understand . Why would you not want a muzzle break ? I here guys talking all the time about things you do not need 99% of the time . FA , Dust cover , Brakes , tritium sights . If it in no way hinders you and the rifle and for that 1% chance you need it why not have it . There are a thousand things that you can have for hundreds of rifles you don't need most of the time . That does not mean your stupid for having them .

I know. Again, I'm talking about outside of competition or combat.
I've had a fire extinguisher in my home for ever and have never needed it . Why have it only fireman will get the best use out of it .

Why have 30rd mags 99.99999999999% of us will never need that many rounds only competition and combat needs those .

My pepper and salt is a giant, black is standard. Great dogs. Giants almost went extinct during ww2 when they were used for trench fighting.

Seriously? I have a P/S giant. There are less than 200 P/S giants in the US so the odds of running into another one are miniscule.

Best dog I've ever had.

I know, that's why I brought them up. You sure on the >200 figure? That is crazy.

There are thousands of the black giants in the US but only around 200 P/S giants. They're rare. Where did you get yours? There aren't that many breeders in the US.

For the 1000th time, I never once said one was stupid for buying one. My original point was WHY BUY AN AFTERMARKET brake (outside of competition and combat).

Luckily I live close enough that I was able to pick both of mine up. My standard is a bit testy with loud and fast moving kids, and strangers that make weird moves, the giant doesnt care if kids slap her and strangers play with her.

i love my standard, but because of temperament (and hes been to plenty of training and seen behaviorists) i think will stick with giants. every giant that ive met has been super friendly.

I actually have met 2 skansen giants in my area so far, both were females and my standard liked playing with them.

I have a giant male who has been professionally trained. My wife has two minis. My giant is good with both kids and dogs but I wouldn't want to be an intruder. He's extremely territorial. He goes everywhere with me or he howls all day.

Obviously, you're in NorCal. I'm in LA. I've known Sylvia for years when I was growing up in Sonoma Cty. Made the drive up to fetch him.

Nope. Only in combat, where it matters. I managed to survive it without an expensive aftermarket muzzle brake so what I was given was obviously sufficient.

You should know better than most that Marines do the most with the least. They have old crap gear, dont have the funds for the latest and greatest, and have to adapt and improvise regularly.

The a2 flash hider is very dated technology, some people enjoy having new stuff that works better than old stuff even if they don't plan on using or needing it to its full extent.

You'll notice that most people on the road don't drive small, cheap, Hyundais even though a small cheap Hyundai is sufficient for most.

It's kind of nice to know that people an still spend on unneeded luxuries "just because".

No muzzle brake on my 20" stainless bull barrel. I wonder why people advertise their ARs with a flash hider, I thought flash hiders were illegal in CA?

Your post contradicts itself. You do realize that muzzle brakes are made for function right? Regardless of competition/military and us lowly "civilians" as you put it.

I'm willing to bet if you tried a nice one that worked well you would not complain how well the AR shoots with it over the standard birdcage FH.

You're probably right. I may have to buy one now. See? I started the day as a skeptic and now I'm part of the collective. Now, how about those ammo shortages: What's up with that?

Why risk beating up good equipment when you can throw Marines at the problem and get the job done twice as fast?

And they cost a lot less to replace than all of that fancy equipment. Just empty the prisons for more.

As I said earlier, use the technology that fits your application.

flash hider- maintaining night vision and a low profile

brake- significant reduction in muzzle climb allowing for quick target acquisition and rapid engagement

compensator- A smidgin of both worlds but not really

Then again, what the hell do I know. I'm just a junior member whose been shooting guns for 15 years

I have used one on a barrel that wasn't long enough. Kinda want to put one on my AK just cause I think it would look cool.

I would guess there are a lot more big off road tires sold for trucks that never see the dirt than ones that do. Not any different, their money.

Lol sorry Fritz, when I wrote that the OP wasn't a marine I think I had just come off another's thread where someone was complaining about the recoil of 5.56. Got confused and thought me and you were making fun of him.

Anyhow, not sure why everyone is so pissy about what Fritz said, folks need to relax. This is the interweb.

Bob7122, care to name a few? Because I find it hard to believe that someone figured out a way to defy the laws of physics with a $150 muzzle device. but if its true ill go buy one and try it out pronto.

Cans don't count.

This is a brake/flash hider
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Prima...pws-fsc556.htm

Here is a review
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NFRbrdgqr0

These are brakes but kinda work as flash hiders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io2wilwieY0

I've seen others but ones enough to show they are out there . This is not to say that this device is great at both muzzle rise and flash suppression . Im sure you have to give up a little of both to get some of each . I'm sure there is a way to make a device that works excellent as both a brake and a flash hider . It would just look like a soda can hanging off the end of your rifle .

This is one of the best breaks out there but who wants that on the end of there AR barrel

Some of us come from states where flash suppressors are not allowed and we don't want a target crown. I.E. the other communist state of NY. Flash suppressors in NY are illegal.
