I lost out on a PPT because Turners in Orange wouldn't start it without proof of residency. General consensus is that the PPT could of been processed because the proof of residency is only required on delivery of the firearm.
I wasted 2 hrs on commuting there and back, for nothing. I had another Calgunner on the way to do the PPT on a used handgun, AND I was going to buy a new $700 handgun from them at the same time. Turners in Orange has lost my business for good. |

They wouldn't let you pull up your electric bill online? When I bought a handgun from them, I forgot to bring my registration with me and I just asked them if I could pull up my edison account on their computer, and presto.

since no two FFL's in CA seem to have the same requirements for PPT, id suggest next time, contact the store to see what they require before you leave the house. better to be over-prepared.

Don't know if PPT is different but the San Marcos store told me to just bring my vehicle registration when I pick up my G19 I bought from them new. On the other hand, when I did a PPT earlier that day they wouldn't let the guy go through with it because he forgot his. Luckily his wife had her registration (they drove her car) and HSC. This was at Steelwater in Temecula....

I love the 6 P's, but the proof of residency is only required at delivery. I have done a few PPT's, and my FFL's (Shoberg, Marin firearms) let the buyer know if they did not have POR that they needed it to get the gun. Strangely, they wanted the gun, so I guess they brought it.

We all know what you need to buy a handgun in California and if you don't do your homework before you go to buy one. I understand Turners position on this one they do the ppt without the guy comes back to pick it up and still no proof of residence. Then the guy says no one told me that and get all crazy in the store. Then the guy end up not having the right proof. I worked at turners long ago and saw this happen more then once. So they changed the policy to you need all the paper work with you. Blame the guys that came before you not Turners. Also for me I hate doing ppt at Turners it is Oc Armory or Rifle Gear for me.

The problem with PPT's is you only have both parties at the time of the transaction so your paperwork needs to be 100% at the time of transcaction. If you are unprepairded don"t blame the store for YOUR error. It's a fire arm, not a toaster!!! I drive with my reg in my car (as most people do) and my license is current with my home address so it's never a problem. GROW UP!!!

you assume that the OP didn't have Proof of registration. It is entirely possible that he did have registration, but that it wasn't in his name. I know many people that drive cars that are registered to a family member, or they drive a company car. It isn't that it they didn't have proof, but that it wasn't in their name so they couldn't use it for PoR.

Yep... You need to have all your ducks in a row. I wated my time trying to sell a handgun to a calgunner .
I even asked him if he had handgun card, proof of residency that matched his drivers lic etc before I even agreed to meet him. Well guess what... I met him at turners FV and he pulled the manager aside and tried getting him to do it with non matching paper work. Manager said no go and I was pissed, not at the manager but at a hole calgunner. Hey it's their policy and everybody knows it |

If you read my original thread, you'll see that I fully admit that I didn't have the ppw. I'm sorry but it's pretty difficult to buy the "covering their own ***" story if others can walk into Turners and are given the courtesy of bringing their proof of residency later when they pick up their firearm after the waiting period. If that's a privilege, what do you suppose the criteria is for that? Is it really a privilege as you say, or selective understanding of the law?
