Default According to some, I just wasted my money...

...but I'm happy and excited about my new purchase!!!

I just jailed a CZ Redhead Deluxe.

About two months ago I decided I wanted an o/u for skeet and trap. I've just always liked the classic look of o/u's and I have wanted to get into clay shooting. There are a lot of naysayers about o/u's for less than 1k, but that was my limit. I read a lot of reviews, articles, forums, etc and was afraid I would not be able to find a decent gun within my range. There are lots of negative comments about o/u's in that price range, but I settled on either the Mossberg Silver Reserve II or the CZ Redhead Deluxe. I decided my top pick to be the CZ. I walked into my LGS a few weeks ago, and they happened to have the kind I wanted, 12ga, 28". I wasn't ready to buy it then so I had to wait. Finally got the funds together yesterday and called them up. Person on the phone told me it was sold. Bummer. On a whim, I went there anyway as it is on my way home from work and it was still there. Maybe the person I spoke to earlier couldn't hear me well? He did ask me to speak up twice because the connection was bad or something. Either way I was pretty stoked. Did the paperwork, paid, and now the wait begins!

I'm sure I'll enjoy this gun! Just in time for my upcoming skeet clinic at Triple B's next month!!!

People are stupid, it's a fine gun, as long as you're happy with it, shoot your game and enjoy. At least you didn't get a Mossberg or a Steoger

Haters and fanbois will be haters and fanbois.

CZ's line of shotguns have definitely come along ways since 2006. They are much more reliable, function properly, and are great value for the money.

Most of the bad press online are pre-2010 CZ shotguns. More recently, I have heard nothing but good things about their guns.

I think you will like it! Ive shot a couple out in the field, and I was impressed. For a clay gun it will take awhile till you can out shoot the gun. At that point you will want to upgrade the trigger and add a custom stock. That's when you will have to decide if you want to build on your gun or upgrade. Till then just enjoy it! DR

Congrats Dude! Nothing puts a smile on your face or an attitude of giddiness, than a new gun or sometimes a new girlfriend. Life is good!

I've shot one several times, and there's nothing wrong with it. You made a good choice. Get out and shoot it!

Love it. Looking for a CZ myself. Figured it would be better than a Stoeger as my starter o/u for trap.

This attitude is just as bad as the supposed "Gun Divas" attitude. I shoot a Perazzi and Beretta 682, ask anyone on here, that knows me, if I, or anyone I shoot with is a gun diva.

The vast majority of shooters that shoot high end guns are welcoming and friendly to less experienced shooters and often will even let them try their guns.

The above quoted attitude is not conducive to friendly relations at the range.

Now those are some nice guns for sure! I ran across an auction for a Perazzi STOCK that was almost more than I paid for my o/u!! Believe me, if I had the means to own a firearm as nice as one of yours I would not hesitate to purchase.

My comments about wasting my money were sort of tongue in cheek and not meant to offend by any means. It was just that while researching I found multiple comments of "don't waste your time" "you'll be sorry" "you get what you pay for" "mossberg sucks" stoeger sucks" etc......

I've found the vast majority of people are accepting and willing to help. If you express a desire to learn and display a respect for safety, most at the range are more than eager to help. I've been shooting and hunting for years and am always willing to help and give advice based on my personal experiences and knowledge. I'm new to the skeet and trap world but I have no doubts the more experienced shooters are gonna be just as quick and willing to help me out and school me on what's up.

Nice choice. My first purchase ever was the CZ Mallard. Well over 3k rounds through it. Never had a single problem...other than me being cheap and not getting the red head with auto extractors.

I was young and on a very tight budget, but I love the CZ I have and still use it to this day.

Yeah, I got that but I kinda feel like I opened the door to the whole "bashing guys who have nice guns" thing with the title of my post or something.

Either way, looking forward to the skeet clinic next month!

Who cares what other's think....its your money. A bigger waste of money is people who buy an AR or AK and refuse to get any formal training on how to properly use the platform.

Flyte74, you got a nice gun. You're not going to encounter any "divas" at the clinic. Although Richard is kind of a diva, he did make fun of me when I took my sling shot out of my car. Just kidding!

Congrats on the new Redhead. Judging by the age of this thread you have most likely had a chance to shoot it already. Anything to report?

Hopefully I'll be joining the ranks of CZ shotgun owners soon. I closed a deal on Gunbroker on May 29 for a 12ga 28" Redhead. This has been longest transaction. It's been sitting at my FFL since Tuesday morning waiting to get checked in before I can even start my transfer papers.

Did you see the word "Some" in here.
Some means some not all, and while I dont spend as much time at the range as I use to I have seen it, heard it and lived it.
I have seen both sides the benevolent high dollar gun shooter who is affable and helpful and I have seen just as many or more snobs, people who look down their noses at anyone carrying a field grade shot gun.
So I stand by my statement and if you dont like it then tough for you.

Sorry dude, I shoot a lot and that is just not the case. The majority of clay shooters are very friendly and it doesn't matter what gun they have.

The a**hole chooses the gun, the gun doesn't choose the a**hole.

And the problem with Stoegers & Mossbergs is what exactly? Oh...nevermind, I just re-read your first sentence...

Congrats to the OP on his new purchase! May it bust many clays!

CZ makes very good medium priced and upper end of the entry level O/U and SXS and your new shotgun is a good shotgun.

I shoot a lot of skeet with some guys that have an array of very nice and expensive B, K, and P O/U's and SXS's and most of them bring out their CZ's and Remington 870 Expresses to shoot on occasion also.

Been outta town for a while so I'm just getting back to this thread. Some asked how much OTD....it was $912.

I've already put more than 1k rounds through it and it shoots just fine and has performed flawlessly. The action was really tight at first, requiring quite a bit of effort to open, but that has loosened up quite a bit. It still requires effort to open, but nothing like it used to. I imagine it may loosen up a bit more though.

I used it for the SoCal skeet clinic and I have shot a lot of trap with it since I have had it and have had zero issues. Like I said, it shoots great, way better than I am capable of at this point.

It's a nice gun and fits my intentions perfectly. I wanted a skeet/trap/field gun and this one fills the bill nicely. Is it the best trap gun out there? Nope, it's not designed to be and as I shoot more clays/learn more about the sport I am sure I will realize some of its limitations in that arena. When my abilities catch up to the limitations of the gun in regards to trap and skeet maybe I'll think about getting a gun more suited to clay shooting, but I imagine that is years down the road.

Glad you like it! I've heard CZ's are great budget guns, I wish I had read that before I bought my Turkish Mossberg O/U.

Anyway, that gun is just fine for skeet and sporting clays, and you will need to become a trap pro before you even think about a dedicated trap gun with high ribs and the like.

If you ever want to try sporting clays at Raahauges, come to a monthly "fun shoot" and look me up

OP what chokes? I'm guessing screw in? Single trigger is good, if it has manual ejectors even better if you reload. Enjoy it. I bought a pair of BC Miruko skeet guns a 12 & 20 Superior grade in 1969 cost was $168 each I've put 10,000 plus thru each and they still shoot great.

Cuda440, sounds like fun. I've only ever shot one round of sporting clays and that was years ago in the UK. Not very many places in San Diego county have sporting clays. I've found one, but I'm also always willing to travel a bit to meet new people and shoot at different places. If I make it up that way for one of the monthly shoots I'll look you up.

Tom, it came with five screw in chokes. F,IM,M,IC,C. I have been using IC and Cylinder. Seems to work. It has auto ejectors, but it's pretty easy to catch the hulls.

I've shot the thing a lot. I'm pretty lucky having a trap/skeet range about 5 mins from my work. I go the range at least twice a week on my lunch hour. It's usually not crowded so I can shoot two to four rounds on my lunch break. I'm really inconsistent. One round I'll shoot a 14, the next round a 22, followed by a 15 or something. Highest I've managed so far is a 23, but I don't know how I pulled that off. That's all trap. Skeet I'm anywhere from 10-14. Lots of work to do there.
