Default IDPA USPSA in South Bay Area

Hey, it seems like all my east bay friends are going to concord for their idpa/uspsa fix.

I just started taking shooting classes (i posted my first FrontSight HG review in calguns two weeks ago... i guess in the wrong section) and i would love to start idpa. I live in mountain view and driving the hour+ is okay, but where are you south bay area sharpshooters going?

any recommendations?

I know Richmond has some now and then. DAP has IDPA style matches every other month alternating with multi gun matches. Don't know of any place in the south bay for any of that.

USPSA pretty much rules the roost in the Bay Area. I believe Sac Defensive something or other has a match every month too. Check Actionpistol.org for Sac matches.

www.sacvalley.org has monthly IDPA matches and 2 USPSA (Capitol Action Shooters League and Northern California Pistol Shooters) matches a month.

The schedule is at www.actionpistol.org

More info on Sac Defensive Pistol - www.sdps-idpa.org

You are there to support the clubs, not the other way around. Competition shooters accept that travel is just part of getting to the game. Would you rather just stay home?

Lot of folks drive an hour and a half to RRGC from SJ. Some even drive up from Monterey, spend the nite, shoot sun and drive home.

Sac is a 90 drive for us from the east bay. 2 hrs from SF.

Lastly, a bunch of the Reno folks drive down 3 hrs, shoot and drive home once or twice a month.

So, yes, travel is part of the game and, no there isn't anything in the south bay that i know of.

Just remembered, there's a "tactical" shoot at the Metcalf range on the first and third Sundays. It's not registered, but there is quite a bit of interest.

Richmond for me is about an hour, it's the closest shoot. It's usually 120 to 150 miles (one way) for most weekends.

Richmond is the most-active Bay Area club.
- USPSA on 1st and 3rd Sundays
- IDPA on 2nd Sunday of every OTHER month (next match is in July)

There are also monthly IDPA matches in Winton (Central Valley), but it is probably 45 minutes further from you than Richmond.

If someone could talk a range in the South Bay to start IDPA, it would probably do quite well.

Only reason I haven't started any of the shooting sports is because there's nothing nearby(San Jose). Yes, traveling is part of the game, but its not one I'm willing to partake in especially if I plan on doing it with any regularity. Driving more than an hour once a month gets old for me really fast especially if I wanted to do some practice and have to travel some more. If someone could get something going at Los Altos, Metcalf, or Sunnyvale, I'd definitely consider it. As it is, the only thing resembling some type of shooting competition in the immediate South seems to be the Cowboy Action Shooting club at Coyote Valley Clays in Morgan Hill. I'm actually considering doing that as its much closer plus I've recently taken an interest in revolvers and lever action rifles.

Doesn't Reeds indoor range do something competitive every week? I had heard of people shooting there weeknights.. Or is Reeds no longer in business?

DARMOG,
I don't recall anyone at a 'practical' Action Pistol shooting event beg for others to join in. If you don't want to show-up, fine, more practice time for for the persons that are.

I am not too sure about the Cowboy shooting events, but I will say, Yippie-Ky-Yay!

Driving one whole hour to get to a match? Once a month? Sounds like you are not really ready for competition. I shoot 6 to 8 matches a month, and most guys I know shoot every Saturday and Sunday. One way travel time is between 45 minutes to 2 hours.

You do realize that the average USPSA match takes 200 rounds and about 4 hours to finish 6 stages?

Maybe you should stick with golf, probably a course within 15 minutes
