Default Went ahead a put one away

I talked you guys a few weeks ago about Level Rifles. I wasn't really set on which one..until tonight.
Place a Marlin 30-30 in Jail. $500. Bit high, but the cash was on hand and was burning a hole in the ole pocket. With a box of 30-30ammo, 1 box for the Mosin and two boxes of 8mm Mauser...I'm broke till next payday...lol
Hopefully this will open a new collection into Levers for me. Just one of those guns that called me from the shelf.

I like lever guns too. Savage 99F .308, Marlin 30AS .30-30, Winchester 94 .30-30. Savage is soo sweet. PAX

i am not into pistols, shotguns or tactical guns. just C&R. i also think i could fall for lever guns real easy. they look like fun to me. back around 1900 somebody made a lever rifle that shot 7.62-54r. saw it on the american rifleman magazine. i have a lot of mosin ammo to shoot in one. i think they are rare and cost over 2,000 bucks.

Wow, did you see the bullets for it? Must have been a blunt tipped x54r round. Weird.

i got interested in this after reading the thread, evidently the 1895 Winchester is a lever actions rifle in our favourite russian cartridge, saw one that sold on gunbroker for around 1200 i think. interesting rifle for sure, probably kicks like a MULE!

Proud Winchester 88 owner here. Yes a lever gun is a treat to own and shoot.

So being new to this, anything marked 30-30 is acceptable for ammo?
Hornady has the poly tip round marked 30-30 Win, but it's a pointed nose. I thought this is a no-no regarding levers? Unless the poly tip makes the difference. Are some boxes marked just 30-30 and some 30-30winchester?
I always thought 30-30 was specifically for Levers.

Spire point bullets in a tube magazine will cause a chain fire reaction from recoil, the point on the bullet acting like a firing pin on the round in front of it. I've seen it happen and it's pretty ugly.
The poly tipped bullets addressed that problem, allowing better ballistics with spire point bullets in tube feed center fire rifles. Any factory 30/30 ammo works in your Marlin, it's a strong action too.

Congrats, I picked up a 60's revelation model 200 not too long ago from a fellow member here on calguns. Nice rifle, it's a Marlin 336 made for western auto. Great match for my Marlin 39A. Which it's what you'll want next

I have four lever actions:

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun - Cal 45-70
Marlin 336 - Cal .338 Marlin Express
Marlin 336 - Cal 30-30 Winchester
Winchester Model 1894 in 45 Long Colt

I love 'em all!

I'm still waiting for my Mossberg to come it. I went with the "heretic" route and got the tactical 464
