ME?
A: Don't currently want another pistol (at least not one that $600 would buy)
B: My Choice - as I need an optic for my PTR GI
C: Too over priced and too much trouble to hunt for
D: A Monty Python DVD?

YMMV

Im guessing you just found yourself 600 dollars richer? buy ammo/magazines, unless you're looking to buy a used gun.

You could get a Glock and 100 rounds to put through it for $600

While I personally don't believe in the "money to blow" concept, to me, a lost dollar can never be recouped, if I did find myself with $600 to spend on something it would have to be something I need at the moment

If there was a handgun I fancied, I would look into it, same with a rifle or ammo

Right now, due to the over pricing on many gun related thing, including ammo, I would probably use the money for something else, overpaying for ammo, or a gun doesn't sit well with me, even if it was money I suddenly came into

I would buy an Aimpoint PRO, a few more PMags, and some ammo with whatever was left. I have enough guns.

I'd probably buy a 1911.

$600 puts me in rock island or citadel category. No offense to anyone but if I buy a 1911 it's gotta be Springfield, Colt, Kimber, etc. I'm considering SR45, XD45, or if someone magically wanted to sell an off roster PX4 .45.

I'd probably get a lever action rifle in .357mag caliber. Used if needed.

Or hold on to the money to have enough for a .44mag revolver or a CZ97b handgun.

if $600.00 dropped into my lap today, i'd set that money aside. i've got 6 days left on the 10 day wait for a 'like new' with original box Gen 2 G17 at my lgs, and i'm grateful that i'm getting that. that was a fairly lengthy layaway.

Mr Murphy has visited me a few times over the past few months, so i'd sit pat with my hand.

Why? What would those other brands do that the RIA wouldn't or couldn't be made to do?

I have a Colt (Series80), Kimber (Pro CDP II) and a RIA Tactical and honestly the only one I regret buying is the Kimber. With the trouble it's given me (2 warranty trips/still not right and all the holier-than-thou crap I got off Kimber) I wish I would have spent the extra $400 on a LesBaer but I still don't regret buying the RIA at all.

I don't feel I went "cheap" when I bought the RIA Tactical 1911. Out of the box the Rock will do 90+% of what my Kimber will for 1/3rd the price. It is every bit as good as the Ruger and SA entry level 1911s for roughly half the price.

Spending less isn't always a bad thing.

I've seen a lot of reviews for RIA and they have all been good. Biggest complaint I've heard is they are a little rough around the edges and a touch less accurate than the big boys. I have nothing against them. I'd just prefer an American made 1911. I know not all Springfield's are made in the USA. I know people either love or hate Kimber. Either way it's just a preference.

I picked up my RIA for $450 new. Money well spent and I don't regret it at all. Shoots just as good as my old Kimber Custom did.

Got you. You are missing out on one of the best deals going in 1911s though and could step up to the Match if you wanted more accuracy. The money you save would buy lots of ammo.

as i mentioned in my earlier post, i'd set the money aside. if i was going to spend that $600.00, i'd probably pick up a long gun. a Ruger 10/22 Takedown would work for me, along with some extra magazines. an early 870 Wingmaster would be desirable to me, as well. i'm always happy to bring an old Wingmaster home.

there are handguns on my list, but i've decided to try and pick up a few long guns before the beginning of 2014.

@m03 - I'd prefer 100% pure Cambodian breast milk

@ greasy - I don't commingle beer and gun money

@ bsg - I already have a 10/22... But does the 01/14 registration include shotguns?!?!? This could totally alter my course.

We all know the future might be BLEEK; the fight isn't over and we must think ahead.

Three things we should be buying, hoarding, stockpiling. Since $600 isn't much money, my first inclination would be to buy:

1. 2 Off-List Lowers. Just buy them and stash them. More if you can before the end of the year (when new long gun transactions are DROSed into the CDOJ system) and before these Crazy Politicians get more laws passed.

2. Magazines. You know the reason.

3. Ammo and/or Ammunition components. (for future reloading when you buy a reloading press). I feel that ammunition will be attacked by politicians much more in the future with bannng in more cities, limiting quantities, requiring a permit, paying a per-bullet tax, banning internet sales..etc. It can only get worse, not better. We must be independent from these restrictions. JMO.

4. Other long guns before the end of this year. Or shotguns.

Just my opinion and my priorities.

I know I already answered the OP's question, but it's just interesting that my friend finally paid the $600 he owed me... What a coincidence. So this question does indeed apply.

I decided to hold on to the cash and save up some more for my next project - a semi-custom 1911. Maybe a Nighthawk Custom, a Wilson Combat or an Ed Brown... I know, big gap between $600 and $3,000 + tax, etc. But it's a start!
