I know several doctors who know I own guns. In fact, I've had more than a few make house calls to my home and leave with brand new AK type rifles without the need for any paperwork or even serial numbers.

My medical provider has not asked me that, at least not yet. Should the question be asked, my answer will be, "I will neither confirm nor deny."

The prepared answer for me and my wife to that question is "No, do you think that's a good idea? Where is the best place to look into buying one?"

I figure if a medical professional thinks that the question may ADD to the number of guns out there, they'd fudge their Huggies, which would give us the win!

It just so happens that my Doctor bought his first gun recently. With the help of a friend, He got himself a Smith & Wesson 9mm by way of a PPT. He told me how terrified of guns he was. His friend helped him get over that fear and took him to the range. Demonstrated safe handling techniques for him to learn. Now he is thinking of buying a membership at the local range so he can practice more. Again I was shocked, He was just trying to connect with a fellow gun owner/ talk shop.
That's the scripted response to your objection. Until you can sling some brass with him, I don't buy it.

Where? I have seen 7 doctors within 3 weeks and not a one of them asked and it was never in any of the questionnaires I completed. No questions asked at my dermatologist or opthamologist. My podiatrists office had several old copies of The American Rifleman in his lobby too. They actually had his name on them. None of my wifes docs asked either.

If a patient were to volunteer the fact that he owns a gun, my next question would be if he's interested in a Front Sight membership. LOL.

I could dupe this thread several times at least going back the last few years.

I've had a number of questions from doctors I've either declined to answer or I simply gave them the answer they wanted to hear. It's not that tough.

Q: "Do you own guns?"
A: "None of your business"

or

Q: "Do you own guns?"
A: "No"

It's that simple, pick the one you like best, flip a coin, whatever. But it's silly for people to get bent about doctors asking about things they perceive to be dangerous, it's what they do. You are under no obligation to give them an answer or even a truthful answer.

Not yet anyway.

That's being said, I've seen the question "DO you have firearms in your home?" come up on a few questionnaires. One was with Kaiser. The others were with my kids' pediatrician. I can tell you that none of them featured a "yes" answer. BTW, the pediatrician questionnaire also asked if we had a pool.

Doctors are just looking out for your health, it's up to you to decide what you tell them or not.

When asked about guns by my doctor, I said I had a Henway.

He asked, "What's a Henway?"

I told him, "About eight pounds."

Funny, the only doctor who asked me about guns was my current doctor. He's a big HK guy and his dad taught at the Citadel. Can't say I'd answer the same the next time though.

The next time your doctor asks if you own any firearms, tell him as long as his bill is reasonable, he shouldn't be concerned.

That's great news, I will sleep better now knowing that.

Good reaction. It's good that he bought a gun too. Glad he was just trying to talk about guns.

I don't get sick enough to see a doctor more than once a few years, and I'm in my 40's. The next time I go see a doctor, I think I'll cc and see how things go.
