That didn't take long.

Glad they didn't try to drag it out in court though. That would have been total BS. But I guess the Chief's open admissions to fault would have made any case in court pretty tough to argue.

Fair enough. I know I'm not lining up to get shot in the back and lose my truck just so I can get seven figures.

A family whose house was raided by police in error is outraged that eight officers involved were honored. Police say the eight, who also took fire, "performed bravely."

And to think those morons (LAPD) thought they were going to get away with buying her a new $40,000 truck. I'm glad they stuck it to the dept. They need to learn they can't go running around shooting at people because they're in a panic. F'ing keystone cops!

The crazy thing is that the truck wasn't even the right color. I really think they just wanted to shoot at someone.

Are damage/injury settlements taxable? I didn't think they were.

Torrance PD is probably going to be sued also. Maybe Obama can hold a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden and present all of these cops The Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Police seeking Dorner opened fire in a second case of mistaken identity

"David Perdue was on his way to sneak in some surfing before work Thursday morning when police flagged him down. They asked who he was and where he was headed, then sent him on his way.

Seconds later, Perdue's attorney said, a Torrance police cruiser slammed into his pickup and officers opened fire; none of the bullets struck Perdue."

Must be something more to it. Gift tax applies to the giver, not the recipient. In addition, he could use his annual $14,000 per person gift tax exclusion for some of it and a part of his $5,120,000 ($10,240,000 for a married couple) lifetime gift tax exclusion for the rest to avoid gift taxes altogether.

The last sentence in the article:

The eight officers remain assigned to non-field duties pending an internal investigation.

They understand that it would cost them way over $4.2 million to defend against this claim in court. They would spend a couple million in defense, and be forced to pay out $15 or $20 million in damages.

$4.2 million is a small price.
