Default New Guy!...Where can I buy 9mm ammunition?

I am new to this site, just in case you are all wondering
I am Marine stationed in Southern California, I am training my wife on pistol shooting since she is soon to go into law enforcement and this is her only weakness.
The ranges are killing our pockets in terms of ammo... where can I find some
9mm ammunition????
I have looked on cheaperthandirt website since that is where we get our shotgun ammo, but they are out of stock... and the ones that are there are double what the range charges us...
Any one got any suggestions????

I've been very happy with the 9mm reloads I've gotten from LAX Range. Been buying them 1000 rounds at a time. No idea what they cost - I just close my eyes and hand them my credit card...

Try checking out the "Deals" sub-forum constantly & gunbot.net. You can find out when your local shops get in their shipments typically & showing up early. I'd also recommend downloading the Walmart app on your phone and trying your luck there as they are one of the few reasonably priced suppliers. It seems like good/fair prices are out there but you have to be very diligent with staying on top of them & also being there at the right time before things sell out in minutes.

I wouldn't recommend "Cheaper than Dirt" for anything.

Like others have said just watch the for sale area on here, and you will come across a good deal that wont break the bank.

IMO stay away from CTD....

And depending where you are LAX has good reloads, Surefire. But the prices are still a tad inflamed.

I am going to try not to flame but...

A large majority of people on this site are appalled but cheaper than dirt's recent practice of extreme price gouging. Many of us have declared we will never buy from them again.

I am not trying to change the topic of your thread but, I encourage you to look around in the ammo and reloading section to find people's opinions on cheaper than dirt, then collect some of your own information and come to your own conclusion.

Now for something productive.

Sign up for email alerts and be ready to pounce when you get the alert.

Also check when places like big 5 get there orders. My local big 5 gets there orders on Wednesdays. Sportsman's warehouse on Thursdays.

Not sure where you're stationed or where you live in SoCal but if you're near On Target you may want to check on their reloads. Haven't been there in a while or purchased their reloads in quite some time but they used to have decent deals. Never had any problems with their loads either.

Haven't bought manufactured ammo in a while but;

http://ammoseek.com/?cal=82

Not all vendors are Cal friendly (you will learn to hate CTD) and some cities and counties in our fascist state restrict on-line ammo purchases.

And I used to use SG Ammo and BulkAmmo.

Prices on LAX Range 9mm reloads are not great, but generally consistently available. Also issues with consistency of the reloads (crimps are visible on some, and some are loaded a little hotter than others) Other than that, currently $155/500 (in store price). They are my go-to reloader since Serge / Bulletman911 stopped taking my calls.

Just was at LAX Ammo this weekend, here you go for prices:

Reloaded Ammunition Pricing:
--------------------250rds-----------500rds------------1000rds
9MM---------------------------------155.00------------300.00
40S&W------------------------------175.00------------340.00
45ACP-------------------------------200.00------------390.00
10mm-----------115.00 NEW
38spcl-------------------------------175.00------------340.00
357mag---------120.00 NEW
44mag-----------130.00 NEW
44spcl------------125.00 NEW
45 Long Colt-----125.00 NEW

They're also the only ones in the area that usually have .30 carbine and even .22lr ammo. I drive all the way from Simi to LA now to get my ammo from them.

Been using their ammo for the past 6 months and haven't had a single problem yet, no FTF or FTE.

Do not shy away from the "factory" reloads you can find in various stores. Build a relationship with a local guns store (LGS) and they just may be willing to give you a call when they get some ammo in.

Default Another question guys

If I am looking to get ammo that has been reloaded does it matter what kind/type if I am using a Glock 17?

Very tempting... right now we are shooting at "Raahauge" in Corona... and that is already an hour drive for us
We like the range since there is no supervision what so ever and I can really get down and dirty with shooting drills, movement, to placing small obstacles for her to move around, dual shooting with her and myself etc...

Yeah I'm a boring lane-shooter, but let me know when you're headed to Raahauge's next! If it's on a weekend, I've been meaning to try em out.

Pick up a press & start rolling your own. With two shooters, the press will pay for itself the first year.

I don't know how it really works, but if OP's wife is getting into law enforcement ... don't cops basically shoot courtesy of taxpayer's ammo at cop ranges, as part of their training?

You don't get all the ammo you can use and taking it for non department use is theft.

Well thus went off topic real quick with a simple comment...I am not looking to steal from no department...
Like my first post said, I am just looking for guidance from everyone here on where to find ammo for our training sessions BEFORE she goes into an academy!

I find the ranges are fairly reliable, for example Oaktree in Newhall just about always has reloads for a resonable price. Also check out www.freedommunitions.com (they have a "what's in stock now" page). Prior to the "panic" they were well priced but as with everyone else their prices have crept up over time. They're working checking IMHO.

I like ammoseek. Using it, yesterday I ordered 2k rounds of 9mm from LAX for about .52/rd after tax & shipping. Not great, but I've recently been training in defensive pistol & man, do you burn through ammo. Funny, I usually shoot my 1911's, but a while back picked up a 9mm because the ammo was "cheaper". So much for that! In fact recently I can buy .45 for less than 9mm. Crazy world.

Every glock I ever owned was awesome with pretty much all ammo. The only thing I would never shoot again is Wolf 9mm...that stuff made my glock 19 look like some kind of space blaster. It was spitting sparks and lead out like crazy. Otherwise- all reloads were totally fine. LAX reloads are probably the best quality/best price in the area.

I like to check the private sales forums first. Sometimes there are fair deals and you get to support community members.
