Help please,
I need a new phone, and want to move to a smartphone. I'm with sprint. As a former computer techie, I hate apple and microsoft. I dont want to support either brand. (I also hate google with a passion) Since I refuse to support apple, no iphone. ever. What are the best options out there that are not ridiculous expensive? I dont need to impress people with the fancy latest/greatest product around. What say you? Samsung galaxy 3? HTC one? I'm not on the phone a lot. Battery life is good, but not critical for me. What would be a better choice? Or what would you recommend instead? Thanks Postal |

If you hate GOogle, Apple, and Microsoft, your only option is a Blackberry. Good luck with that.
Get over yourself and buy an iPhone.

The HTC and Samsung Galaxy 3 are pretty nice. I've had a Blackberry z10 for about 2 weeks now and really like it. Gestures are different than other OS phones/ tablets but I'm used to them now. App store is a little thin still, and sideloading is a pain in the butt.

I guess you can wait for the Ubuntu Touch capable smartphones.
I could swear you sound like a guy in my office. Total Slackware advocate. He hates everything else (Windows, Mac OS, *BSD, Solaris). That guy is total anti-gun, though.

HAHAHA!!!!
Red hat maybe? I worked on MS products yrs ago. Any phone from them only needs three keys... Cntrl-Alt-Del. I refuse to support mac overpriced proprietary nazi company. Google chrome really tweaked me on my laptap which is why I hate them, but android it is..... Probably pick up a galaxy sIII this evening. Thanks all. |

I picked up a galaxy s3 last night.
Been messing with it setting it up. headphone jack has a bad connection, and I have to take it back. Seems pretty cool. Just a pain I need to have it replaced for a bad jack connection, so I cant keep playing with it getting it setup, if they're just going to swap it out. |

There are now two contenders for the top cell phone in the world: HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, both just became available. Both have a Full HD screen @ 1920x1080 (it will be years before iphone catches up.)
I'll be going with the HTC One due to the superior screen and speakers. The silver one can be ordered now, the black one in a few weeks. HTC One ![]() Galaxy S4 ![]() Last edited by sd_shooter; 04-24-2013 at 8:04 AM.. |

Well, I would recommend you get one of those old flip phones or some sort of smart phone with it's own proprietary OS, because you can't buy iOS, Android(Google), or Windows.

If you don't want to have to depend on Samsung for updates and stuff, there's always the Nexus 4... it's also cheaper than the Galaxy S3 if you're looking to actually buy a phone.
Personally, I really hate how these phone manufacturers feel the need to screw around with the OS. |

The downside to pretty much every smartphone is poor battery life, constant use will drain a battery pretty fast. I'd suggest a razr maxx or maxx HD because of the great battery life.

There's only one option for you. Build your own. Too hard? Then suck it up and get the one you hate the least. Funny how all the smart phones look and act just like an iPhone. You people hate Apple but don't mind buying products that are Apple rip offs. Oh, and another thing... I went to the Apple Store in Fashion Valley. Two doors down was the brand new Microsoft Store. Guess what? They copied the Apple Store all the way down to how the employees wore their company ID's around their necks. Can't these guys be original at all? Remember when the iPad came out. All the jokes? Now look at all the iPad rip offs on the market.

The Epic 4g was pretty good, aside from cell-service, and Sprint's data network craaaaawling...
![]() Android w/ a physical keyboard if you do any ssh/rdp sessions (full screen AND type at the same time), AND cli & GUI access to the underlying filesystem if you gain root access (w/no locked bootloaders and such). You don't have to use your real name for tracking with a google/gmail account, unlike Apple iCare supported products? ![]() Samsungs have an ODIN utility to bring it back to stock if you ever screw it up after a root/rom replacement... (Apples drops saved pictures from the browser in the camera app? ![]() No Citrix app was avail, last a coworker checked on Windows phones, but that may have changed (if Citrix is used at work)...

I had no problems with my BlackBerry - I had it for years. Of course, I don't try to surf the internet on my phone either. I have computers for that.

First - get a phone YOU can replace the battery in.
I don't give a *hit how much $$ you have, why spend it if you can be crippled by a $20 battery. Second - buy the phone outright, unlocked, don't sign a contract. Quality new smartphones can be had in the $100-150 range.

It's been some time since your original post. I hope by now you have figured out that the Galaxy 4 is it. I am still rocking the Galaxy 2. I have never in my life wanted my phone to break down so bad. Why?… So I can get the Galaxy 4 of course. Next I would look at the Galaxy 3. Then maybe an iPhone or something. I don't know much about non-galaxy androids.
