Angry 8th grade student suspended, arrested over gun t-shirt

http://www.wowktv.com/story/22020264...er-gun-t-shirt

When 8th grade Jared Marcum got dressed for school on Thursday he says he had no idea that his pro-Second Amendment shirt would initiate what he calls a fight over his First Amendment rights.

...

"I don't see how anybody would have an issue with a hunting rifle and NRA put on a t-shirt, especially when policy doesn't forbid it," Lardieri said.

At least the news report didn't paint the kid as a bad person.

The staff of that school needs to be fired though.

Good lord! Arrested too??!!! This intolerance is just numbingly stupid. I am at a loss for words. Was the charge for diruption of the indoctrinating process? Or was it for bring forth a hotly debated topic? Wow just wow

The shirt wouldn't have interfered with the educational process if the teacher hadn't made a stink about it. Why wasn't she arrested?

If we don't stop it, this is how we will lose the fight for public opinion. Our next generation is being brainwashed into giving up their rights.

Yet the kids can go to school with droopy pants barely hanging onto their butts and that's okay.

Libtard progressive teachers trying to shove their agenda down the throats of their students. I hope that kid's family sues the teacher and school.

This young man is very charismatic. I would love to see this go national and on the morning shows. This type of thing might make viewers stop seeing pro 2a people as aggressors and realize they're being persecuted.

****ing hypocritical idiots...

This is exactly how long, bloody and pointless wars are started...

Anyone who is hurt or killed thanks to the backlash from this incident will have this pathetic excuse for an American (teacher) to blame.

Obstruction has always been used as a "contempt of cop" charge. I would bet that the arresting officer is an acquaintance of the teacher. The police nowdays "protect and serve" THE STATE.

I bet if he wore this he would have been ok

He should have worn it first, then when he wore the other one, why did it change?

So because the libtard teacher was offended he disrupted the educational process and was arrested. I hope the parents are able to give the teacher, along with all others involved, an appropriate history lesson through the Judiciary system for violating his 1st Amendment rights.

I hope the NRA gets involved. Also they should arrest the teachers unions for "disturbing the education process"

So, are the NRA, SAF, and other pro RKBA rights organizations getting involved to help the family? That's what I want to know. This is how indoctrination starts—hammering down the protruding nail.

But if he would have worn a Che Guevara t-shirt, or a Lenin - Marx t-shirt, and especially a F... America t-shirt, he would have been held up as an outstanding student. Disgusting.

I would guess that 95% of the people wearing the Che, Lenin and Marx shirts are doing so as a fashion statement and have no clue who they are.

I hope so, but I didn't wait. I e-mailed the reporter and asked her to pass my contact info along to Mr. Marcum, plus the info that if he has to lawyer up to get his son out of this jam I would welcome the opportunity to open my checkbook and help him out with a contribution to his legal fees.

That teacher and her school district needs some remedial education...

Unfortunately most states have a law prohibiting the disruption of the educational environment. It is the one used when nothing else fits. If a teacher or administrator sees a t-shirt with a message they believe is controversial, they can suspend the student for disrupting the educational environment. The t-shirt has the potential to distract other students from getting their education. SCOTUS has made several rulings that greatly restrict the 1st amendment rights of public school students.

As a teacher myself, I would be overjoyed to have a student bold enough to not only have an opinion but to also publicly proclaim it. I would be thrilled if the student could provide a well reasoned argument for his position. Way too many students have no idea of what they believe in or why. They trust everything they are told by people they believe they can trust. Better yet, if it is on the Internet it has to be true.

Today at lunch, I was discussing with a couple of fellow science teachers our first time shooting a shotgun experiences because the 3 of us have only been working together for 2 years and just learned we share a common interest in waterfowl hunting. So we are planning a group hunting trip. Not all teachers are anti-gun or would make a stink about a student wearing a pro-2nd amendment t-shirt.

Did you ever think in your lifetime that expression of the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION would get you kicked out of school and arrested?

Where is this? It's political speech. If it was a "kill em all" shirt I'd say inappropriate. But NRA, USMC, US ARMY... Totally ok. And.... I'm a school admin. Then again we do the pledge every day, read the names of fallen grads for memorial day, post pictures for veterans day, have an outdoor adventure club, send care packages to troops, and my kids get a dose of Hooah every day. My teachers even had a social at an indoor range.

I do have to say, the kid was probably totally inappropriate in arguing his point and didnt back down to the cops. Anyone can be arrested for keeping a school from operating. We have to be more than civil when arguing our rights... Not fair just the way it is.

+1 but suspending for a first time wear would be wrong. It would be over turned on appeal. Even for disruption there'd have to be a history of disruption. That shirt wouldn't qualify because it doesn't qualify as promoting violence. In fact it's a first amendment issue because it is directly political speech.

LOL EMO HAIR. Alright all joking aside that is quite an outrage. What state is this in again? Also what did the police "charge" him with. Seems like a lot of people have been arrested recently for either falsified or non existent charges recently...

Unfortunately this country's mentality is switching to the opposite thought. Wtf is wrong with parents letting their kid wear a gun on his shirt.

The slide into the state of Libtards has got to be stopped.
