Thanks. I admit to being a bit lazy, so this type of link makes it easy.

aside from the DROS fee, I don't see a problem with this. I'm not a prohibited person so I could care less if the Feds go after someone who isn't supposed to have a gun.

The DROS fee is the point! They already have millions in excess money they have not used and now want more.

Maybe you could send them a private donation on behalf of their ideas if you so strongly support this measure. YOU KNOW, send them more tax money than what you were supposed to pay to just say, "help out"

OH and by the way this is not FED it is state

This. Not only are they stealing our money, they are doing so while asking for $3.2Mil of NEW money as a budget item. For a DROS service program. Which is what the DROS funds are supposed to be for.

DOJ took our money and amassed a surplus -- improperly -- to move into their pet project (screwing us) and are laundering it through the Legislature.

Done! Added my own two bits:

"Poor choices in the past by State leaders have resulted in the current backlog of 19,784 prohibited persons owning firearms illegally (as of 1/29/13). It must be acknowledged that the State has inadequately enforced existing laws. It must also be acknowledged that passing more laws, without funding enforcement, makes us no safer. What it does do is allow our elected representatives to grandstand about their record while in reality passing the bill along to someone else to pay. Please do not give our past representatives a 'pass,' or allow our current ones to continue the process."

>_< I'm no good at this but I gave it the old college try.

Dear Gov. Brown,

Please veto SB140 which I believe has already been sent to your desk to sign. The Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) account was set up to cover the cost of conducting DROS's only. Because the fees exceed the actual DROS cost (which is itself a violation of the law), this account has built up a substantial surplus. SB140 would illegally raid this account to pay for the backlog in the underfunded Armed Prohibited Persons System (APPS).

If the APPS is a critical program requiring an urgency vote, then please properly fund the program; do not illegally raid the accounts of other programs to pay for it. The funds in the DROS account are not general funds to be reallocated on a whim and attempting to do so will open the state to lawsuits to protect the account.

Please veto this piece of bad legislation and save the state significant legal fees, courts costs, and settlement costs. Fund the APPS program properly in the light of day as should be done in a democratic republic where the government serves the people and conducts its business publicly.

My local NPR station had a story this morning that left off the critical note that the $24,000,000 in fees have been collected illegally.

This is my email to the following:
General Manager, Mary Olson molson@callutheran.edu
Director of Operations and Programming, Jim Rondeau jrondeau@callutheran.edu
News Director, Lance Orozco kclunews@aol.com
Quote:
This mornings broadcast story by Amy Quinton regarding SB140, omits critical details of the proposed legislation:

That the $24 million in funding in the DROS account that sits in excess has been illegally collected by the Department of Justice by overtaxation which they have been expressly forbidden from doing by law in the original creation of the DROS system. The DOJ is not allowed (by law) to collect any more money for processing the DROS requests than what is required to do so. The fact that the DROS system has a $24,000,000 excess clearly shows that the charges currently imposed for lawfully exercising constitutionally protected right are in fact higher than what is strictly necessary. Thus the funds have been collected illegally.

If the Armed Prohibited Person System backlog is so important and urgent to fix, moneys should be found for it through normal funding methods.

How much time does the Governor have to sign, not sign, or veto?

As to anyone who feels like this isn't a bad thing because they aren't prohibited, I feel you have way to much faith in data integrity and accuracy. False positives can happen and you want to support legislation that actually results in confiscation without due process of law?

Faxing is good, it ensures a delivered hard-copy, which just means that it has to be touched even if its just gonna be dismissed, and therefore is more of a PITA.

Make your voice heard and tell him what you think of this bill. Then i guess we will find out after tallying up the signings vs. the vetos at the end of the day. Just because you voted for him doesn't mean we don't have to make our agenda clear as day to him

with these kinds of numbers it looks like we are in for a tuff few months. all these bills are going to pass with huge numbers.

Both My State Senater and Assembly Person, Pavely and Blumenfield seem like they don't support the 2nd at all. I have email many times and written too. The do respond, sometime it's not canned. they do seem concerned that I talk to my neighbors about them.

My only hope is having good alternative to help support next election cycle.
