Called and passed my opinion to rep. for Gov. Brown as a law abiding citizen, gun owner, and veteran for him to veto SB 140. Also e-mailed and posted this on Rugerforum.net for all Cal. members to call and e-mail Brown's office.

I got 13 emails back from people that at this point can do nothing to stop this. Nothing went to Brown?

What's up with that? Is FPC really that unorganized?

Me too. The person answering the phone sounded very pleasant and made the same comment when I called.

Actually, it's up for a concurrence vote in the Senate so we kept them on the hook. We're not unorganized, just more informed.

Someone fill me in on why this bill is worse than lets say, how for years the legislature has taken dedicated highway funds from gas tax receipts and spent that money on thousands of other special interest groups to the degree of waisting so much money that they are raising gas taxes so they can fix the roads! Why all of sudden is this such an emergency since they will be taking guns from felons and nuts that couldn't go buy a gun legally anyway.

Im just curious.

I wish gun owners would give even half this much effort on less important than 2A issues but still critically important tax and gov fee issues and waist.

By the way, I have emailed and (cant get through on phone which is a good thing) for the veto because I don't support any shell game with our fees and taxes.

So the bill hasn't been sent to Brown's desk as reported?

My bad for the harsh response as well.

No, it has to be voted on twice by the Sen. Can hit Brown's desk next week, but we wanted to let him know that we weren't taking this sitting down so a flood of grassroots letters before the weekend will give his staff something to think about. And no worries, I'm sure many were thinking the same thing. I appreciate your efforts and look forward to all of us pointing the same direction this year.

here's my email:

Quote:
Dear Sir,

I am writing to urge you, as a voter and your constituent, to immediately VETO SB 140, which illegally raids the CA DROS fund, which is dedicated to performing background checks on prospective gun buyers. Not only will this law place undue burden on the CA DOJ in performing those checks, but it guts one of the few effective measures of preventing/reducing gun violence in California.

Do not let the legislature place our homes and schools at risk by defunding background checks on prospective gun buyers. Don't let a Newtown-style tragedy happen in California. Don't give up California's place as the national leader in gun safety and gun violence prevention.

Sincerely,

Kurt Ackermann

I called and said:

"My perspective is that this bill is a corruption of the legal and political process. This money was not originally set aside for the purposes laid out in SB140. Please veto this bill and keep our government honest."

The woman I talked to was pleasant and took the message.

This is actually one area where we can make progress. Those groups who everyone loves to hate want all the money they can get. I wrote the governor from a financial position and filed the email under the budget as well again under gun control. Here is what I posted.

" Please veto SB140. This bill will be tied up in court for years and waste millions of dollars of our hard earned sweat and tears to defend and those dollars could be much better used on other issues. The defense of this bill in court will also waste resources which could be used to fight so much of the crime that is now ignored.

I am politically active in the labor and contracting industries and people are organizing to unseat politicians who pass bills such as this which only serve to waste scarce and precious resources due to litigation while the real problems are ignored."
