Exclamation Not one of you is pro 2A (stop sb140)

Unless you, Demand a VETO from the Governor! (916) 445-2841 or direct email http://gov.ca.gov/m_contact.php

SB 140 is an urgency vote.

Quote:
Takes millions of unconstitutionally-collected Dealer Record of Sales (DROS) funds to compensate for the failure of more than 500 local law enforcement agencies not enforcing existing gun laws. Uses DROS funds to pay for CA DOJ expansion, including raids and confiscation of weapons from those whom the State deems to be prohibited based on unreliable data from an untrustworthy list.

At least my Assemblyman didn't vote for this. Brian Jones for Governor!

From LA Times.

The measure passed on a bipartisan vote of 57-10, although some Republican lawmakers opposed it, arguing it was improper to pay for the confiscations using a surplus of fees paid by gun buyers to cover the cost of background checks.

“This fee is not for this purpose,” said Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-Santee). "It’s an illegal law. This bill will be tied up in court for years.”

Here are the Noes and Yeas from yesterday's vote, Click on Votes Tab at top.

Done. here is the email I sent. I will call later today as well.

Gov. Brown,

Please veto SB140 which I believe has already been sent to your desk to sign. The Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) account was set up to cover the cost of conducting DROS's only. Because the fees exceed the actual DROS cost (which is itself a violation of the law), this account has built up a substantial surplus. SB140 would illegally raid this account to pay for the backlog in the underfunded Armed Prohibited Persons System (APPS).

If the APPS is a critical program requiring an urgency vote, then please properly fund the program; do not illegally raid the accounts of other programs to pay for it. The funds in the DROS account are not general funds to be reallocated on a whim and attempting to do so will open the state to lawsuits to protect the account.

Please veto this piece of bad legislation.

I emailed, called and faxed, and I too copy and pasted ruskieshooter's letter. (it was good!) and put my own 2 cents on the end;

Gov. Brown,

Please veto SB140 which I believe has already been sent to your desk to sign. The Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) account was set up to cover the cost of conducting DROS's only. The funds in the DROS account are not general funds to be reallocated on a whim and attempting to do so will open the state to lawsuits to protect the account.

Please veto this piece of bad legislation. Not only is it illegal, it is just plain and simply, not right.

Call made, but since it's a money grab I expect Brown to sign it into law. He needs to grab every penny we have to pay of his party's union backers.
