Default Does anyone keep with them print outs of CA oll law and or court rulings?

tucked in their range bag or anything just in case they get hassled by someone who may just be ignorant of the law (not out for malice). And or in the hopes that it might keep them out of other unwarranted trouble?

we should start a list, or a page of key info that can be printed out.

Have them on my Key chain USB Flash drive and hard copies in every safe that also has any firearms in it and in every gun case and even in the pistol grip of my FN Rifles.

Too much ? Better safe than sorry right ?

We cant expect those that have chosen a career in law enforcement to actually know the law they are enforcing now can we.

2 copies of Bwiese's 14 page memo, one in the car, another in the rifle bag.

TM LLP and other lawyer friends' number in my wallet, just in case.

a dozen copies of the two page legal OLL summary for passing around to other gunners.

In addition to a printout of the AW laws, DOJ regs re: detachable magazines, and the BWiese Cop Memo, I have a copy of one of the following in a sheet protector in each OLL case.

For fixed mag builds:
Fixed Magazine "Not an AW" Notice

For MM grip builds:
Detachable Magazine "Not an AW" Notice

These are generic, I have the info for each particular OLL in the flyer in it's case. I figure, even if the LEO ignores it, my lawyer has it to show to the judge or DA.

I like it! I think I'll do something similar, but maybe in a 3x5 card size, and attach them to each rifle with a lanyard.

It would be great if one could print out the text at those links but it looks to be a machine code of some kind and not easily printed out.

If you can provide these items in RTF format or something that will open when the link is clicked without saving it.

I also looked for the link from your home page and could not access it.

thanks

SemiAutoSam, I've recreated my own version of fairfaxjim's documents.

I just saved RTF's for ya here: http://www.paul.net/guns/CA_not_an_AW.rtf

All the info in <angle brackets> needs to be filled in of course.

What I also do is when I print them, I set the printer settings to 4 pages per sheet, and it makes the document come out in a small handy size that I then laminate.

SemiAutoSam,
they are in .pdf format. They should open up in Acrobat reader, or you can right click and do a "save target as" They aren't linked in my website - just stored on the server.

If there is interest, I will stick them up in word or rtf format.

OOPS, see MudCamper has already done that. Thanks.

MudCamper

Thanks for that I saved it along with your other document that has been in my Sig line for the last few months.

fairfaxjim

Usually I just open them without a problem but I recently reinstalled XP on my laptop as my main machine crashed and I haven't configured the raid just yet so im somewhat handicapped.

I didn't remember to install all of the essentials just yet as I am somewhat lazy and knew that I would install all of the bells and whistles on my main machine when I reinstall XP on it.

I've got a printout for the OLL in my range bag as well. I'm a bit curious as to whether anyone has actually had to use these printouts. Has it convinced an officer that a firearm was legal?

Cool

Ghost post(s) from the past to bring back

I would also keep a copy of the California Centerfire, Semi-Auto Rifle Identification Flowchart

One problem you could run into is that if you have all these things on your person, and you get arrested for having legal firearms, what does one do if everything gets confiscated, and you have NOTHING to reference in the way of phone #s and/or information you need to get hold of any of the CGN/F council? You memorize the number to the Calguns Foundation:

800-556-2109

or

650-275-1015

You make your one phone call (not sure how that works exactly), and during that phone call, you tell whoever you're talking with to contact anyone at these #s, or you are calling these 2 already.

DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE. Keep your trap shut, because anything you say can and will be used against you in court. They are dead serious about that when they read you your rights.

Erik.

I think it was last year that I bought several copies of a professionally-printed-and-bound book called the California OLL Guide (or something like that; I will go look at the one in the car at lunch.) Had everything mentioned above and more, and was inexpensive. I bought one to store in the passenger door of each car for ready reference in any traffic stop. More "solid"-looking than a bunch of printouts. I cannot remember the calgunner who was selling these but I thought they were worth every penny.

I know this is a necro-thread, but I thought I would put my 2 cents in anyways.

I don't carry a single damn thing with my guns, and here's why:

If you are at the point where a cop is trying to take your gun away and you need to explain why it's legal, pulling out a bunch of papers isn't going to further your case in a positive manner.

Being able to rationally explain why your stuff is legal WITHOUT papers will go a lot further than trying to bombard a cop with a flowchart you printed on the internet.

But then again, I can fully explain WHY my stuff is legal without having flowcharts and legal printouts in front of me

i keep my bf-034 card in my wallet. it works at the bank as a secondary form of identification.
it's a certificate like other certificates but if you mean court dockets i keep those and minute orders in a file cabinet at home.
bf-034 - i've had lots of things confiscated but that's not one of them.

how about some info to print out regarding the lagalities of "home made receivers"? i may be paranoid but im thinking most leo seeing a receiver with absolutely no marking or serial number is going to automatically assume its stolen and the numbers have been ground off. i often wonder too since there would be no model number there is no way to compare it to the "ban list"

I hoard paperwork about myself sometimes, eg rap sheet, clean DMV, court dockets, etc that might be weird to lay it on them right there and in public.
I can spring it on the judge though sooner or later or in the event that I got brought-in and tell it to the judge, as the saying goes.
I apologize. I couldn't find "oll," defined so I hope I'm not barking up a wrong tree.
In a way I think that justice-related paperwork is fine when it's at home unless it's available in a card, such as is the difference between bringing with me my driver's license and keeping at home my DMV printout.
They're both handy, but I've got a temper even enough to talk my way out of problems that will require my producing on the spot my DMV printout.
For instance I get pulled-over in a car and just shut-up and answer questions honestly and know that I've got solid paperwork at home so I don't have to rifle through my bag and upset the Leo but still it's a sure thing that I've got my driver's license handy, vehicle reg and proof of insurance.
The rest I can explain it to the judge and so can he (the Leo).
Some circumstances are beyond my control and if I'm going to jail over it then I just plan to plead not-guilty in an arraignment and take it from there, my paperwork from my files, etc but trying to circumvent the whole due process is a self-defeating endeavor.
