People have been known to die doing that.. when the fish is to big and pull them under.. two to three people die each year is the Stats
Fishing is the most dangerous sport in the world, more people die each year fishing...more than skydiving, boxing, etc..look it up, it's a fact!!!

If I can't use a rod, then give me explosives. I'm not going after a big friggen fish with just my arm.

We call it noodilin in OK, you get pretty torn up on the big cats. If you plan to do this make sure you only play with holes that go down, if they go up it means what's in there likes air so think copperheads, beavers etc, and they are no fun to play with...

My buddy told me that noodlin is illegal in CA. Anyone know if that's true or not?

ROFL this is crazy as all hell. I sure as heck would like to try this, though. I think I've got the muscles for it but sure as hell dont have the balls for it - sticking my arm down an angry beaver does not sound like fun!

Good god though, Ive never seen catfish that big. But wouldn't it be better to do spear fishing instead? put some bait on a stick with backwards barbs on it? And those guys.... that's two country boys, that's for sure.

I'd gather that they swim around on the bottom of that muddy pond and feel around until they find a catfish hiding in the mud.
Then they stick their hand in it's mouth and out through the gills, pull it out of the mud and stand up.

Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noodling for a thorough discussion
I first saw it on Dirty Jobs, and the guide remarked you always have to watch out for snapping turtles

Those cats are actually on the small size for noodling. Here is a set of pics I have had for a few years on the matter.

Those pictures explain why 3-4 people die each year doing this.
