Just got back from a few days in South Dakota pheasant hunting. In one word WOW!
I have always heard that SD was the place to go and I'm a believer now. If anyone here has been to a waterfowl refuge and watched as a few hundred mallards got up and flew out over the marsh you have an idea of what it looks like to see a few hundred pheasants do the same.
We would walk CRP land and within an 80 acre field litterly push out 60-80 birds on a pass thru it. They seem to come out in groups of 10-20 birds at a time and just keep coming as we moved thru the fields. I would estimated 25-30% easily being roosters.
A group of 9 of us hunted and took full limits each day, 108 birds in all and nothing planted...all wild birds.
