I applaud everyone's efforts. Unfortunately, it will not stop the proposed legislation from passing. Only a few of the proposed bills will not make it past the appropriations committee. But SB 47 will make it this time. SB 374 will pass as well. Both of these laws as written can be enforced by the DOJ (they do not mention confiscation) and they do not cost the state a penny. There is nothing written in these two bills that will doom them to failure in our legislative process. Anyone who doesn't register their semi-automatic firearms will be a felon on July 31st 2014.

California's liberal politicians are on a mission to ban every firearm they can and they will not fail here I'm afraid. Unfortunately, many California firearm owners already believe semi-automatic rifles are not needed for hunting or self-defense. In the court of public opinion, our liberal politicians are already the winners.

We should be focusing our efforts on fundraising and buying the best Constitutional Law firm that money can buy. We need to move this issue to the Supreme Court for a final decision on what firearms the government can regulate for self defense in our home. Then and only then will California respect the right to bear arms.

Diane Fienstein and her followers already believe that the Heller and McDonald decisions will not end the Assualt Weapons Ban already in place. The challenge is whether we can prove them wrong in court.

Sir you make your case very well, and you are certainly more articulate that I.

I have already directed you to the rally thread, both this hearing thread and the rally thread are a cooperative effort. I choose to stand with the people who refuse to go down silently, not across the street telling them they are wasting their time.

I can't make it to the hearings or the rally. But make no mistake, your efforts in Sacramento are necessary. The opposition needs a face to hate. I know you will do it with dignity.

When the time comes, I will speak up in a different manner. I will open my wallet when the ulimate court showdown occurs... and I will speak. I will start by joining the non-profit 2nd Amendment Foundation.

Thanks for your efforts and I hope more people like yourself show up.

I'm going to try and take a couple days off from the shop here in riverside to represent my brothers, our business and my baby boy. So he can one day still exercise his God given rights.

I would love to come but I live in L.A. and might not have access to my own vehicle at that time (It's in the shop this week and there's a lot wrong with it). Are any calgunners interested in carpooling and splitting gas? I'm happy to organize something if it means I can get there at all, and if anyone's got a couch to crash on I'll be there for the duration.

Is anyone getting the Pink Pistols to think about coming up?

Is anyone talking to their local Tea Party chapters to get them to attend?

Their local SASS outfit?

If this is a Calguns.net-only event because that's all anyone thought to invite, and we're going to sort of stand around outside the Capitol and make the lawn our own private clubhouse for an hour or two, this is going to be a sorry affair. Will there be speeches? Punch & pie? Are people bringing leaflets to slather all over telephone poles coming and going, and to hand out to passers-by...?

A rally is not just showing up and standing around, for Christ's loving sake. What's the PLAN OF ACTION, folks?

I will first go to M&J Gun Trade and try to convince them to post flyers in the store, and to show up themselves.

Okay, good. Soliciting local businesses is great. I live in Redding and know of three gun shops I can hit up. I'll be printing out leaflets tomorrow and prolly distributing them day after.

Now someone please tell me what we are going to do ONCE WE GET THERE besides stand around and look glum. Do you people grok the activist thing or not?

All these Committee members have a District office, is it in your city?
Do you drive by it daily or weekly?
Do you know where it is?
Do you know who your Representative is?
Do you know who your Senator is?

If you cannot make it to the Capital can you get to the local office and voice your opinion as a Constituent?
The person may be on the Committee hearing at Sacramento but his/her office in your neighborhood is open and the Staff is taking opinions from Constituents.

On the Capital steps they see an organized group of people and do they wonder how many are from their District?
At the District office you are from their District, a direct line to the Representative. They count the No's and the Yes's locally also, not just in the Sacramento.

You who are staying home in your City may have the most power to make a difference in that Committee member.
Pop in there on the way home or to lunch, introduce yourself and tell them to tell him or her to Vote No.
Might take 10 minutes to save your self future grief from that little voice we all carry around inside us speaking of things we shoulda done when we had the chance.

I was thinking of making some Blaze Orange T-shirts with the previously mentioned
I Will Not Comply in large letters on back and the CGSSA logo on left chest.

Then reverse them on the Safety Green shirts.
CGSSA logo on back and I will Not Comply on front.

A sea of hurt your eyes orange and safety green

How would that look on a plasma or LCD tv screen?

Senior tech pubs guy here: Make it painful to look at and guess what? People will avoid reading it. I'll settle for instant brand-name recognition Gadsen Flag yellow with the big snarling snattlerake, with your logos. I'll also buy a couple, should you wish to organize a group buy.

Well having the time to attend this is one perk of getting laid off. Are the details posted earlier in the thread? If not, please send them to me. I'm not sure what number we are up to, but add one more.

On a side note, if they do reclassify an Ar with a bullet button to an assault rifle with forced registration, does that mean we can take off the bullet button? And anyone with an 80% would be forced to get their's stamped? Would people be able to sell their AR out of state?

I am going to be there regardless, but I want to know what the plan is when we get there? If this is shoddily thrown together by a single forum thread then that's going to show.

I was there on the 16th, and that rally was good because of the SPEAKERS we had. We need representatives who we can put up behind a mic and let them voice our opinions. If we are all just walking around like headless chickens on the capital steps then we will be completely, 100% ineffective.

YES I will be there on Monday, however it is easier to get people to turn out for 12 bills vs 1 bill. That bill is equally important. I would be there even if NO ONE ELSE says they will be there, I will let them know at least one will stand in opposition.

This is the RIGHT ATTITUDE, STAND and be recognized, that you oppose the attempt to trample our rights, further make sure others come too. No one is promising anything, no food, no speakers, no pat on the back, just other honest law abiding citizens standing shoulder to shoulder.

The plan... the only plan in this thread is about attending the hearings, that is what this is about, THE oppositions seeing we will NOT IGNORE their effort to shred the 2nd amendment. It's not a party, the rally was announced in the other thread. To the best of my knowledge they "GRAA" (we have talked several times), they could NOT get a permit, for the rally. Sanchanim planned and organized the January Cap steps rally (Incredible Job) , he has been involved in this about the same time I started this thread, we have both worked separately to get the word out.

This is a public legislative Public Safety hearing the process has been already discussed. There are 12 bills 2 speakers will speak from each side, for each bill. The speakers representing our side NRA lobbyist, CRPA advocate, Sam Paredes GOC, CAL-FFL advocate, Eldorado Sheriff D'Agostini, and I'm told that 8 other LEO will be presenting for our side too. At the end the committee opens for Public to stand and be recognized. Each of us will be allowed to state our name, where we are from, and if we are FOR or Oppose the bill, Thats it, we can say no more. The rules say if we had 400 people there they are suppose to allow every one to stand and be recognized.

The purpose of this thread was to announce what was happening on the 16th and try to get other cal gunners out from behind their keyboards, and stand together on 16th. I know that GRAA guys in the other thread are seriously disappointed they couldn't get the permit, they tried. This is a long battle, the Cap Steps Rally in Jan was great, it was also on a Saturday, while it was an encouragement to many Pro 2A/gun supporters, nothing else happened. I was there, Sanchanim single handed planned and prepared for that rally. Check that Jan Rally thread there was over 800 posts in that thread. So far in this Apr 16 thread there is only about 100. HUGE difference, there are many reasons for that.

People we are at the beginning of this fight, we need volunteers to work getting the word out, calling, emailing, twittering, talking to people, etc.
Go to www.carkba.org there is a 5 minute RKBA Grassroots handbook, read it. PLEASE use the contact form on that site so I know you check it out, we need to know that you are showing interest.

On the 16th look for a Calguns/CGSSA volunteer who will give you a neck lanyard, he will have a info contact card to quickly fill out, name, phone, email. For the people who fill out the cards, I will have a drawing prize as incentive to fill out the info cards. (50 rounds of centerfire ammo). I will be easy to spot, I will be wearing Black Golf Shirt that has Calguns Logo on front (also I need to loose some serious poundage).

NO ONE HELPED Sanchanim in January, no one is helping both of us right now, Calguns/CGSSA is providing logistical support (literature, lanyards) and lots of encouragement. The most help is from other organizers with Tea Party, Gun Ranges, and shooting clubs.

My daughter is a school teacher, just talking about Apr 16th two male teachers are missing school and going to make it to those hearings. She gave a flyer to a friends dad, and he is going to make it.

If every person on the above list told 20 people we would have easy double the number that will show up. Help get the word out, and they will come.

For flyers to print out and give to friend or coworkers: www.carkba.org. The site was quickly thrown together to support this event but will be used for future grassroots event.

For parking carkba.org

The Capitol doors open at 8:30 am

When to get there: Many of us will be there at 8am and earlier. We will be at the front entrance. Besure to get you Calguns Neck Lanyard, it has a 3x5 placard that says NO! on one side an Calguns on other. NO SIGNS or POSTERS are allowed, that requires a permit.

All entrances have security scanners. Remember to take your knives and other weapons out of your pockets in your vehicle. I forgot on Monday Having to deal with that will slow everyone up.

Where to go in the Capitol Bldg?
Go to the elevators in the West wing on first floor (Main entrance is the East side), or take the stairs to the 4th floor. The John L Burton room is at the opposite end of the hall (east) it Tees go left.

No posters, signs, are allowed in the building, unless you have a permit. We do not have a permit.

GET YOUR NECK LANDYARD before you go in., your neck lanyard has a discrete placard that is acceptable. In the hearing room you can hold it up, It simply says NO!

Latest info, check this forum and www.carkba.org

Got the word out at my Gun Club's monthly safety meeting. About 15 attended.

I FAILED at having flyers available at www.carkba.org at myself.
Flyer 1, Flyer 2, Flyer 3 (note flyer 3 doesn't display correctly in your browser pdf quick view, but it prints fine).

My plan was to run to Kinkos before the meeting, however my local Kinkos just changed from a 24 hr print center to shorter business hours. Bummer.

Anyway, made a quick presentation at end of meeting, met calaveras (already on list to go) plus two others said they would make it.

People download the flyers, be better than me, leave people with something.
GET THE WORD OUT!

I just printed out Flyers 1 & 2 and they came out fine.

Flyer 3 is a bit too color intensive for my black and white printer.
That's a lot of dots

Angry_lobster and biscuit barrel: I live in Orange County and may be able to go if a carpool can be arranged so I can split gas and go up Monday night. Are either of you still looking for a carpool?

Here is an article of interest and support, it's a survey conducted by PoliceOne.com.

PoliceOne.com released the findings from last month’s Gun Policy & Law Enforcement survey, which drew more than 15,000 completed responses from verified law enforcement professionals. Covering a broad range of topics related to the gun control debate in our country, the survey found that the overall attitude of law enforcement is strongly anti-gun legislation and pro-gun rights, with the belief that an armed citizenry is effective in stopping crime.

EXCERPTS;
.....92 percent feel that banning semi-automatic firearms, or “assault weapons,” would have no effect or a negative effect on reducing violent crime.

.....91 percent support the concealed carry of firearms by civilians who have not been convicted of a felony and/or have not been deemed psychologically incapable.

......80 percent feel that legally-armed citizens would likely have reduced the number of casualties in recent mass shooting incidents
----------------------------------------------------------------

So these are the personal opinions of the folks working the streets on a daily basis and seeing the firearms activity first hand.

IF YOU ARE MORE THAN 2 HOURS AWAY, SAVE YOUR MONEY!

DO THIS INSTEAD OF THE LONG DRIVE!

Instead GO To you State Senator's District Office Between 9am & 12 pm on Tuesday the 16th.

1. Write a position paper stating you position on AB 760 for Monday the 15th & the 12 bills (12 bills on Tuesday 4/16/13 at 9am Tuesday in the John L Burton Hearing Room #4203 ---SB47, SB53, SB108, SB127, SB293, SB299, SB363, SB374, SB396, SB475, SB567, SB755).

2. Make it NO longer than 2 pages.

3. Include a cover letter to your state senator, stating that you would drive to Sacramento to go on the official record during the hearing procedures if you thought it would make a difference, that you stand with those who OPPOSE these bills. However instead you are visiting your local representative office, and want your letter actually read by your elected official. Ask that your elected official reply to your letter personally.

4. Be polite, professional, remember you represent your brethren.

PLEASE, post in this thread if you actually did this, which district.

This actually will have more impact than visiting the hearing room.

Tips for writing your elected official
Quote:
Here are some tips to make your letter to your senators or representative effective:

Know who your legislators are (you have two U.S. senators and one U.S. representative) and write to them at the correct address. Visit www.senate.gov or www.house.gov to look up their names and correct mailing addresses.

Determine whether to send your letter via U.S. Postal Service or email. Generally speaking, senators and representatives are impressed when constituents take the time to craft a thoughtful letter and have it delivered via U.S. Postal Service. However, if the issue about which you are writing is coming up for a vote shortly, it is best to use email. Email addresses are also available at the previously mentioned websites.

Typed letters are much easier to read than written ones. Avoid writing your letter in longhand unless you have no other choice.

Address your legislators correctly. Senators should be addressed as "The Honorable Senator (John Q. Public)" or the abbreviated "Hon. Sen. (John Q. Public)". The salutation should be "Dear Senator (Public)". Likewise, your congressperson should be addressed as "The Honorable Representative (John Q. Public)" or "Hon. Rep. (John Q. Public)". The salutation should be "Dear Representative (Public)". When writing to the chairperson of a committee or the Speaker of the House, address them as "Dear Mr. Chairman", "Dear Madam Chairwoman", "Dear Mr. Speaker", or "Dear Madam Speaker".

Be sure to include your name, address, and phone number in the top right corner of your letter. This will ensure that your legislator knows that you are a constituent, and will enable him or her to respond to your letter.

Keep the body of your letter simple and to the point. Your letter should address a single topic. In most cases, the following three paragraph format is recommended.

1. Let your senator or representative know who you are and why you are writing. If you are writing about a specific bill, identify it correctly. Bill numbers can be looked up at the Thomas Legislative Information System (www.thomas.gov). List your "credentials". For example, if you are a farmer writing regarding the Farm Bill, begin your letter like this... "My name is Jane Farmer. I am a fourth-generation farmer from Green Acres, New Jersey. My family has owned and operated our 500-acre vegetable farm since 1923. I am writing to you concerning the Farm Bill (H.R. 6124)."

2. Provide more detail. Don't be emotional, but do tell your personal story citing specific, factual information about how the topic about which you are writing affects you and others. Again, cite the correct bill title and number.

3. Close your letter by respectfully requesting the action you would like your senator or representative to take.

Use correct spelling and grammar. It is an easy thing to click on the "spell-check" button before the "print" button.

Always be courteous in tone, and thank your legislator for taking the time to read your letter. Do not demand a response. Never be abusive, use profanity or threats. This will not help your cause and, in the case of threats, could land you a tour of a federal prison.

Possible content for a letter to your state Senator and Assemblyman
Quote:
As your constituent, I want to urge you to oppose any and all gun control proposals or bills that have been, or will be introduced including:
Senate Bills:
SB47, SB53, SB108, SB140, SB144, SB175, SB293, SB299, SB363, SB374, SB396, SB475, SB567, SB755.
Oppose these Senate Bills.

Assembly Bills:
AB48, AB134, AB169, AB170, AB180, AB187, AB231, AB232, AB500, AB740, AB760, AB761, AB1296
Oppose these Assembly Bills.

Please Support these Bills:
AB202, AB695 if amended, AB871 if amended.

These bills criminalize the private use and ownership of firearms which is protected by our 2nd Amendment right to “keep and bear arms”. Any legislation that arbitrarily effects the ownership, use, and sale of ammunition, magazines, or commonly owned firearms, including attempts to expand weapons that are already highly regulated should be considered an insidious attack on Californians who are first Americans with rights bestowed by our Constitution, which first and foremost is the 2nd Amendment.

Even President Obama’s experts say gun control policies similar to California’s already existing laws do not work. These misguided bills and proposals will NOT reduce crime. Criminals are lawbreakers; they are not deterred by laws. Murder, rape, armed robbery, home invasions, will not be affected by restricting the “law abiding citizen” with additional gun control laws on top of the hundreds of existing laws already on the books. Not one of these bills address the real issue of gun related violence due to gangs and drugs, or the mental health related issues, instead these bills punish law abiding citizens from freely exercising their 2nd Amendment right, in the tradition of their fathers and forefathers.

Again, I urge you to oppose any and all anti-gun legislation that not only penalizes the law abiding citizen, but makes some criminals because legislators keep changing the rules and definitions. Lawmakers need to focus on improving our mental health system, school security, and respecting their citizens Second Amendment rights.

Please reply to me with your position on these measures. Your votes on these issues will be a major factor regarding whom I support for future elections.
