Question CCW in Santa Barbara County.

I've been interested in getting a CCW permit for quite some time. I was discouraged at first because everyone I've talked to (which includes a local sheriff) has said that it is pretty much a waste of my time and money. I was accepting that for a few months. But, now I've had a change of heart. I've never really been one to give up before trying something and I am not about to start now. So I've been doing some research and talking to more people about attempting to obtain the permit. Some of the advice I've received is "stacking the deck in my favor" before applying for the CA permit. I wanted to get some feed back of what everyone thinks about this advice.

Stacking the deck in my favor before applying for the CA permit would entail obtaining non-resident CCW permits in several states like UT, FL, AZ, and possibly NV. It would also include taking the CA CCW class BEFORE applying in addition to several other handgun safety classes. By taking this approach, do you think I will set myself up to have a better chance at obtaining the CA CCW permit or would my persistence be a waste of time and money?

Depends entirely on the Sheriff or local Chief.

Call them and ask.

Unless there is some way to amend a bill so you would support it,
the details do not matter until the Governor signs or allows the bill to become law.

Ask CA law questions in the How CA Laws Apply to/Affect Me Forum
- most questions that start 'Is it legal ...' go there.

Not a lawyer, just Some Guy On The Interwebs.

Sounds like you answered your question yourself. "even the sheriff discouraged me" If the sheriff has a policy of denials I would say it not be a good idea to waste the money. IMO.

It's a waste of time and money, unless you're:

1) Rich and/or Famous, preferably both.
2) Contribute heavily to his re-election fund
3) AND own your own private plane and join the " Aero squadron"

Otherwise, forget it..

Worked as the Rangemaster and CCW certifications person for the city PD, and there is no chance you will get a CCW in SB City or in SB County.

Period. This is from the horses mouth. I worked for the department and had to get my CCW from the county I live in.
