Question Reputable Gun Store close to San Francisco?

Haven't bough a firearm in a dozen years, where the heck do I go that has decent prices and selection to check out?
Needs to be reputable and prefer not to drive more than 25 miles from San Francisco.

I could Google but that doesn't tell me much....

thanks guys/gals

btw thinking about a 1911 Colt rail gun?

I've only had great dealings with City Arms @ Pacifica.

The salesmen are either Ukranian or Russian, funny guys that know their stuff. Bought 3 guns from them since the new year. Prices are decent. My Raptor and MC Operator were actually below MSRP, then my CZ was just $50 more than MSRP. Ammo prices are up and down but that's the case for every store.

Peninsula Gun & Tactical @ San Bruno is decent too. Their inventory is a bit on the small side, even before all this panic buying.

High Bridge, I've had so-so experience from them. Too many guns that are "LE-only". A friend of mine wanted to trade his Colt .357 "King Cobra", High Bridge offered to do a straight trade with a Rock Island 1911. We, both, said our goodbyes leaving with his Colt..

Last friday, City Arms had a Colt 1911 Government on display. Barebones 1911 but a Colt... If memory serves me well I think it was going for $1095.

There are a few down here in San Jose (a little farther than 25 miles) that are pretty good. Selection can be a little thin of late, but they have been getting in a few more here and there.

Call around and see if someone has what you are looking for.

+1 for HighBridge in SF. Bought my first G26 there in November and they remembered my name when i called last week for my 2nd, a G35. Good people, service and can get most anything into the store. Also root for BullsEye in San Rafael. Haven't purchased from them, but the PPT's are fast and the range is well maintained.

Bullseye San Rafael requires an 11 day wait, and won't take a safe affidavit for a long gun..

so screw them.

High Bridge has zero pistols for public purchase. Last time I was there, it was all for just LEO only.

Bullseye didn't have much of a selection either.

Was at Jackson Arms yesterday. They have two Nighthawks, an Ed Brown, some ARs, and some other stuff.

Triple A in vallejo has the biggest selection i have ever seen in the bay area. However, every pistol i was interested in was LE only...

+another 1 for Highbridge in SF. Great people to deal with. Selection is limited but it's like that everywhere. We're lucky that the last gun shop in SF is also the best one. Support your LGS!

SF to San Carlos is *roughly* 24.27miles, where you will find Imbert & Smithers. I posted a thread about them yesterday. Very large selection of guns - new and used. Very large. I did a PPT in under 10 minutes, with zero hassles. Going back tomorrow for the next PPT!! The one person I chatted with at length, Dave, surely knows his stuff re: 45's. We didn't talk about much else.

It helps that I work 10 minutes away, but as a comparison, Jackson Arm's shelves were, for all intents and purposes, bare.

City Arms in Pacifica is the best Option. Jackson arms had no inventory when I was last there and did not seem interested in ordering more firearms.

City Arms will probably give you the best overall experience. Just be careful how you talk to Uncle V. Don't worry you'll know who he is if he is there.

That's odd, when the re-opened back in late 2011, I took my friend who was a gun novice into city arms. We are both far, far from LEO looking types, but the salemen was very nice and went through about the 5-6 different options for polymer frame pistols, answering all of my friends questions even though we made it clear that he was just at the learning phase of his buying journey. Point is they had about ten handguns for civvies at that point, and not her case for LE only.

high bridge is great, don't expect too much in terms of number if guns in store.

Pacifica city arms is your best bet. People talking about the salesmen being pushy, and they do take an active approach.

Big five in colma/serramonte is good if u watch the sales and are looking for either a 12ga or .22lr. Or if you wanna laugh at how much they charge for beat *** mil surp

+5 For City Arms. Hadn't been in since last summer so wanted to swing by. They still had decent inventory considering the times. Prices are still fair (Mosquito I just bought was $40 cheaper than what I paid in the valley) Purchased a handgun and a stripped lower from them in the past and always treated me right.

As mentioned before the two closest to SF (which I would recommend is):

City Arms: Great inventory but these guys are kinda pushy with the sales. At least the older guy (Uncle V) was, when I brought my Benelli from them he tried to get me to buy another gun on the same day. Also he didn't take me very seriously until I pulled out a wad of cash. The guy is funny though if you don't take him too seriously.

Peninsula Guns: It seems like every time I go in there are different guys working there. About 8 months ago they had a good amount of inventory. Went back 2 months ago and their shelves were pretty bare.

If you don't mind going further:

Templar Sports - New shop, really clean, all employees are helpful, they're on calguns and responds to PMs quickly, inventory coming in everyday (check facebook), Left wingers in the city are trying to kick them out which is more reason to support them.

Eddy's Shooting Sports - He have great prices so he won't negotiate, good bunch of guys, good conversation, was able to find a rare piece for my collection in stock there.

+1 for City Arms in Pacifica. They didn't have what I wanted but one of the Russian dudes made a few phone calls for me and ended up steering me towards one of their competitors

City Arms gets pretty busy so customer service tends to go down but their prices are decent. Peninsula Guns & Tactical are a bit pricey and their selection is small but their customer service is great. I've bought firearms from both places.

Another +1 for city arms. I just purchased another gun from them, even though the price wasn't better than say the Internet, they had what I wanted in stock for a fair price. They are fun to BS with as well.

+5 for City Arms (Pacifica). Great service. If it's busy don't dabble. Keep on point and the guys will take care of you. Otherwise, great service and prices (for the Bay Area). Purchase two of my 4 firearms from them. A+

+1 for Bullseye (San Rafael) for your "boutique" experience. Prices reflect the venue, assistance and better shooting range. Purchased my XD from them. Very helpful and informative.

In the last 2-3 years I purchased at High Bridge Arms a Kimber 1911, Sig 1911 (used), M&P 9mm and M&P AR15. They do have LE only pistols, but they are mostly ultra compacts. I have found them to be a good shop, although recently inventory is low, as is almost every shop. Except for the high priced consignment crap, that is. If you live in/near SF you should definately talk to them.
