Is it legal to sell factory loaded ammo non F to F if you get a copy of the buyer’s ID to confirm their age?

Why do you need a copy of their ID?
I'll expand... Are you even qualified to determine if an ID is real or not? So, what good would it do if you did get a copy? Do you have any reason to believe that the individual is not at least 18? Frankly I would be extremely suspicious of anyone who asked me for my ID in a private online or face to face purchase of ammo.

In most cases I don't think it is necessary. I bought some ammo at a gun show a few months ago. I was not asked for ID, nor was anybody in line in front of me buying from this seller.....of course nobody looked like a teenager in the line.
Just give the State Legislature a little time and the person you want to sell the ammo to will have to show the State approved ammo dealer his ID, so the dealer can do a ammo DROS for the transfer of the ammo from you to the buyer Last edited by sakosf; 03-24-2013 at 6:56 PM.. |

I'm not talking about FTF. I'm talking about on line.

If you want to ask for an ID for a private sale, go ahead. I'm just saying that any buyer should be very suspicious of your intent and should be concerned with how careful you are with any information they provide you. And my point about the ID and being faked is this... Its more impossible for you to tell who's ID I'm sending you a picture of, OR if its printed out on printer paper. In person, you can at least tell if it was printed out on regular printer paper. ---In any case... I would be very surprised if your an expert at identifying the legitimacy of someone's ID that they send you a picture of via the internet. If your that concerned about it. Send it as "Requires Adult Signature upon Delivery". You will have done your due diligence, PLUS SOME, and are making it the responsibility of the UPS driver.

I can see the wisdom in not wanting to display an ID. It's going to have your (presumably) home address written on it, and in an internet transfer the recipient of the ID is now going to have a permanent record of it. There's always the risk of a targeted firearms burglary by giving a stranger that information.

Yes it is. You do not have sell it F2F. You can UPS or Fedex parcel it, for instance. Just don't use the USPS where it is not legal. Schwarzenegger signed law outlawing mail order sales. Courts overturned the law. F2F is not required in California. |

*shrugs* I've never been asked for ID from my 3 main sources of online ammo purchase. MidwayUSA, MacksPW, PSA, do not ask for ID.
