Question CCI 22LR Stinger -- How much is too much?$$

I just picked up a couple of 50 rd boxes at Turners for $8.99 each. Seemed high so I only bought 2 (New Mosquito). What was market on these before all this ammo madness?

I don't remember stingers prices but mini-mags were about $8 for 100 rounds.

Stingers are overpriced to begin with. In the future, you'd want to shoot the cheapest .22LR ammo your gun can cycle. If you have a mosquito, it may very well be CCI Minimag. But it'll still be alot cheaper than CCI Stingers.

I don't remember what I paid for Stinger, but it is very good ammo. I don't think it was too over priced before the crisis, but I wouldn't use it just for plinking.

I don't think it is a good idea to buy the cheapest .22. The cheap stuff has no jacket, so the lead tends to build up. The cheap stuff uses cheaper powder which really makes a mess. And I've purchased some that were so poorly manufactured (Winchester bulk) that the rounds would not always chamber properly.

So I only use the cheap stuff in rifles or pistols that are crappy anyway.

CCI Stingers work well, but they are slightly longer and do not work well in match chambers (so I've been told), they do produce very high velocities which works well for shooting small problem critters or extreme plinking.

The MiniMag cycles the best in my .22s, the CCI Velocitor (sp?) I have tried are very good, but I think they are too hard to find and I think they were pricey too.

If you can afford to, shoot jacketed bullets. CCI Minimag is the best all around for me. Be careful about the really cheap bulk stuff.

After years and years of .22 plinking/shooting I only run CCI Mini-Mag thru my 22s. I don't have any cycling problems or cleaning problems. It does cost more than bulk boxes of crappy Winchester but I don't care. I also keep a few boxes of Stingers. Anything made by CCI is good to go in my opinion.

Every Cal Gunner should have at least 5,000 rounds of CCI at hand...

So 8.99/50 for CCI stingers is about right is what I'm hearing. That is the most I've ever paid for 22LR in my life. $.19 per round.
Thanks everyone for the input

In pre-panic times, 50 round boxes of Stingers and Velocitors were averaging 6 to 8 dollars a box, so you got a good deal.

Are they worth it? For basic plinking, no. For hunting or your SHTF stash, hell yes for the Velocitors. I'm not a big fan of the Stingers.

That's not too bad a price, but you will want to change to the heavier recoil spring with the stingers.

I was paying $5.95 a box at Walmart in Aug last year for Stingers.
About the same for a 100rd box of 32gr MiniMags.

CCI MiniMag solids = #1
Reliable, best penetration. Less damage to meat on small game, more damage to internals on large game. (because they stand a chance of going though bone, intact).

If it's for target shooting, go cheapest that will cycle!

Stingers would impact 1-2" higher than my HV stuff out of my 10/22. I sold them all and bought some Wolf Match Extra.
