Default LDF 5th Saturday SPRING STEEL MATCH March 30th at PALA!

Time Again for Linea de Fuego's Fifth Saturday SPRING STEEL MATCH!
Pistol shooters, shotgun shooters, .22 shooters - come join us this Saturday, March 30th, for an all steel USPSA-style match.
This is a great match for shooters in any of the competitive disciplines - USPSA, IDPA, Police, Cowboy, etc.
We allow .22s (pistol and rifle) for this match so bring the kids or a new shooter along.

The match consists of a minimum of six USPSA style stages using only steel targets and the usual USPSA props (barricades, barrels, ports, etc.). If it's made of steel we shoot it - pepper poppers, round and square plates, movers, swingers, plate racks, Texas stars, and more. Round count is typically around 150, but bring plenty of ammo as steel is unforgiving. We recognize all USPSA pistol divisions, as well as both .22 pistol or rifle and shotgun (sorry, no magnums or .223).

Because of the large turnout (100+ shooters) we will start registration and squadding at 7:30 AM.
Shooter's Meeting at 7:50 and First Shots Down Range at 8 AM.
Match fee is $35 for the general public and $25 for LdF members.

We have a vendor who will have food and drink available for purchase at the range.
Your support of the food vendor will help ensure that they continue to return for future matches.
If you're not planning to purchase food or drink you should bring something to drink as there is no running water at the range.

Match info:

http://lineadefuego.info/matches/index.php

Directions to the range:

http://lineadefuego.info/matches/ncsa.php

New shooter info:

http://lineadefuego.info/matches/new_shooters.php

Bring at least 4-5 magazines, & holster if you have them, if not you may be able to use one of the
other shooters magazines, or someone in your squad will reload the empty ones and hand them back
to you while you’re shooting.

Please NO Shotgun Slugs (Birdshot only)
NO Magnum Pistol Calibers
NO Rifle Caliber Pistols (.223 etc.)

Space is limited, we usually have close to 100 shooters show up!

Do we preregister or do we just need to be there early to make sure we have a spot?

Hopefully it will be set up the way it was in Dec with 20 targets per stage. It worked really well and the squads all kept moving along. I was done by 1:30 in Dec. Its a really fun match. There is nothing like smacking steel with a 45 and watching those plates go flying.....

Are you allowed to shoot steel-cased bi-metal jacketed Tula 9mm at the steel match?

I don't believe so. We get enough splash back from lead. I can't imagine what bi-metal would do.

Way too many people, i think I heard there were 120 shooters. Some people shot each stage 3 times with 3 different guns. So I spent most of my time resetting targets.

Most stages are all stationary targets; I think only one stage had a Texas star. Shooting a plate rack three different times is not a stage. Probably wont shoot it again with the high price of ammo and the 35 entry fee to end up shooting a plate rack and picking up steel all day for the slugs.

My .02 only.

I heard 140 shooters. I was one of the people shooting two guns, but I dropped that after like 3 stages and just focused on one to keep the pace up.

It is an issue with all the people shooting .22lr (as I have done) the shot timer just doesn't pick you up. In December I shot most stages 3 times with my 22 rifle.

As to stage design? Yes, it was simpler than in the past. Yes I have finished earlier. But to me, still worth it

I thought it was a great shoot. Weather was nice, stages were set up to run smooth and fast.
As always, there was a wait at a stage or two, but overall it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one.

I agree that shooting steel is fun. But here is my suggestions:

1)If we know that there will be more than 100 shooters, they need to set up more stages. I know there was at least 1-2 unused bays that could have helped to alleviate some of the squad pressure.
And I am not talking about another 3-heat plate rack. I want some movers, spinners, etc. I would even be willing to help design a stage if it made it better.

2)the all-steel match is very popular, maybe holding it once a month, in lieu of one of the USPSA matches would be beneficial.

3)I understand the draw of wanting to shoot multiple guns, I think it is great. It sucks, however, to sit and wait and reset while someone shoots 3 guns, before I get to shoot one. maybe we could have the first run through , everyone only shoots with one gun. Then those that want to shoot a second (and third) gun could re-squad and shoot through again.

Just some suggestions...but definitely have more good stages. (because....a single plate rack?!?...really?!?)

I had a great time. I don't know what squad everybody else was in but I was in one of the larger squads and we had at least 4 people shooting multiple guns. I had no problem with it. I felt like everyone in the squad, including the shooters with multiple guns, were doing there part to pick up brass and reset targets. If you guys aren't liking the plate rack stage maybe you shouldn't come because I'm pretty sure its going to be there again, it has been there every time I've done this match. Don't forget that this match is geared towards fun and introducing new shooters to competition shooting. I saw several new shooters have a great time yesterday and I'm pretty sure they are hooked, liked I was the first time I did the steel match. Thanks to LDF for hosting this match and I can't wait for the next one.

Already said I wasn't coming back. If you want to pay $35 to pick up everybody's steel go for it. Also I usually shoot on Saturdays, PM me if you want to pick up my steel targets, I only charge $15 but will most likely shoot 4 different guns.

I enjoyed the match, but allowing shooters to shoot multiple guns really slows things down. Perhaps the organizers will consider letting those shooters run through after the match with their 2nd and 3rd guns.

This match did not run any where near as smooth as the December one. I noticed that a lot of squads were really slow because only 2-3 people in the squad were helping re-set the steel. My squad wound up helping to set the steel for the squad in front of us so that we could get them moving so that we could shoot.

I agree that when there are this many shooters second and third guns should be restricted. I don't know if I will go to the June shoot or not. I didn't get out of there till 3:30.

multi gun shooters bring in more money with no extra effort required of the organizer.

people consistently sign up to shoot more than one gone.

a majority of the people shooting multiple guns are long time members of the LDF group.

for all these reasons people shooting multiple guns will always be around and possibly encouraged. i've shot this match 3 times now and every time shot more than one gun.

i do like the idea of seeing it more frequently, hahaha!! i laugh cause i just dont see how it could happen logistically. if it happened more often it would "seem less special" so hopefully the attendance would be spread out more.

either way, if i'm in town and i have ammo, i am going. i like it. the only time i was bummed is when they didn't have a short sleeve tshirt for sale in either small or medium.

Another idea to speed things along would be to use the extra bays to set up duplicate stages for the longer, more complicated stages. It would really help to have a 5A/5B, 6A/6B kind of thing going on.

Its a really fun match, but it gets old standing around for an hour waiting for the squad in front of you to finish.

15th overall out of 124 shooters and 6th overall in the tactical division.

now if you count who was shooting something bigger than 22lr in that division then i was 2nd. hahaha. the lies i tell myself when score is being kept.....

thanks for getting the scores up!

Norco SSA runs a very similar match several times a month so that'd be another venue for the steel fans.

I have no problem with the 22 shooters but I would like the stage description to say steel must fall.

Many times we could not tell if the shooter hit the steel they went so fast.
