I put my lower together for around 300.00 including tax and fees.
Right now I'm waiting for the price of uppers to drop.

I saw a new BCM upper for sale in the market yesterday for around $500. Who knows, it might still be there.

I didn't see it.
I have a complete with upper w/bcg on back order from RGuns for 510.00 shipped, however if I find something close to the same price I'll jump on it.

The UTG 13" FF is only 15.6oz. It compares to similar size rails from DD 12" (15.3oz), Spikes BAR 12" (16.9oz), Larue 12"(16.8oz), and Troy MRF 12"(20.7oz). Of course there are lighter rails out there, such as the Fortis REV etc. If I ever feel the need to spend more money on a rail, I'll definitely be going with the Fortis.

If someone chooses to put a 13" rail on their AR, I would hope they know they're adding weight to the front of the rifle. You don't have to be a hardened veteran to figure this out.

Thanks for the heads up though!

I built 4 from parts and only the lowers were pre Sandy Hook:

Lower $130
LPK. $ 75
Buffer $ 40 (tube, spring, buffer,)
M4 Stock $ 40
Upper $ 90 (w/ fa and dc installed)
Barrel $ 85 (1:9 mag-phos)
Handguard. 40 ( free float with barrel nut)
Gas Tube $ 15
Gas Block $ 30
Carrier $ 150 (stripped bolt carrier)
Bolt $ 85 (assembled bolt plus other parts)
Charge H. $ 25

Total $805

Of course this is a bare bones, no name barrel and parts, no mags and no sights. I have to build one more for my daughter and I know I won't be able to get a lower for less than $200 (maybe $300). So with mags and sights I know I won't get away with less than $1000.

One was about $650 (Del-Ton- lower/DPMS- upper/MagPul furniture), the other will be about $1100 (Del-Ton lower/PSA upper/TROY w/Geissele trigger and VLTOR A5 system)when complete. Thinking of building a 300 black mid-length on a spare VLTOR MUR upper, that will change the total build cost.

Bartering helps too!

I bought the major components prior to the panic so Im still really good as price goes, but did over pay on a P5T BCG and few extra mags to cover the added safe resident.

Built or bought my M4's prior to the panic, some prior to the 2008 election. Recently I have picked up or looking for parts, like a NiB BCG for $280 which I was "happy" to pay. Patiently waiting for the rest of the stuff.

I just want to say that all the gouging going on by the retailers is going to be their demise later as there have emerged a nice list of retailers that kept the prices reasonable. These are the ones that I will remain loyal to, who before I didn't even know about until I had to search harder. I surmise others will do the same.

And to all the petty gougers on CG, what comes around goes around.

I bought a complete sig m400 for 1,499 at a dealer that I have a good relationship with. Bought a dpms lower for a backup lower for 299 at the same dealer that I will build from scratch. Not sure of the total after I build my own. Wanted a backup, which is a good idea, and to build a complete with specific parts.

$1200 Fulton (they didn't have a 5-6 month back order on 12/20 so I got it in February and there's an accuracy guarantee so I know I'll be happy) FAR-15 Peerless NM A4 (I'm unlikely to shoot past 200 yards in the next 3 years and don't need the elevation of an A2 upper plus I wanted the flat top flexibility). Pillared 1/4 minute NM sights (next time I'll do that myself), NM float tube with A2 handguards (12" quad rails just became legal, but I didn't want to waste time figuring that out), purportedly decent barrel.

$335 Lower parts and Geissele Hi-Speed service rifle trigger. My Armalite NM wasn't quite as crisp as I'd like so I thought I'd try the $100 upgrade. (Some schmuck stole my AR15 from an out-of-state storage facility where it was living due to being banned by name).

$20 bullet button

$20 0% Lower forging

$50 anodizing (probably; I think I can do a few while I wait locally)

$1625

$10 2.5" x .5" x 12" 6061 bar stock (to make clamping pads)

$278 tools I'd be unlikely to buy otherwise (I've often been unhappy with cheap cutting tools although Ebay got me some bargains)

$77 1 3/16-16 tap (buffer tower. In stock, not like at Brownells)
$35 1 1/2" end-mill (the top deck and buffer tower)
$18 long 3/4" end-mill (rough mag well)
$25 long 3/8" end-mill (finish mag well)
$21 long #3 center drill (buffer retainer)
$5 long 3/32" bit (bolt release)
$29 long parabolic 1/8" drill (mag well corners)
$30 .376" chucking reamer (safety)
$21 .251" chucking reamer (pivot/take down pins)
$17 .1560" chucking reamer (trigger/hammer)

Plus five odd drill sizes for $1-$2 each (U for the safety, F for the buffer retainer, D for the pivot/take-down pins, 5 for magazine release, 24 for hammer/trigger)

< $2013 total; although the tools are getting used for other lowers too (laying in a lifetime supply seems prudent).

Hmm, interesting to see it all add up.

Here are the FULL prices, including shipping, tax, fees, etc... true to-my-doorstep prices:

$200.00 (approx) Mega Lower Receiver (incl tax, DROS, etc, out the door... receipt not handy) (Turners)

$742.95 BCM Standard Mid-Length Upper Receiver Group (with BCM BCG, BCM CH #4 & NRA donation) (Riflegear)

$165.92 Magpul hardware, all FDE: CTR Stock ($76.69), MOE Mid-Length Handguard ($29.95), MIAD basic grip ($27.24), MOE MVG vertical grip ($18.34) (Amazon)

$45.86 Raddlock bullet button (Riflegear)

$85.45 M&A Parts Lower Receiver Parts (M&A)

82.57 Two Magpul 10/20 FDE PMAG Magazines (Riflegear)

$52.18 Magpul Gen 2 MBUS Rear Flip Sight, FDE (Amazon)

I'm holding out for a Spikes Tactical 6pos Milspec Carbine Stock Hardware Kit with T2 Buffer (Let's say $70 delivered, from Joe Bob) to finish the build.

(NB: I picked up several other mags during this time period, but the FDE pmags were specifically for this build, so I'm gonna count 'em... after all, a full new factory-made gun always includes a mag or two)

Approx TOTAL price for this build, once it's ready to fire, should be: $1,450 (assuming those two estimates pan out, and rounding a couple bucks for a nice clean number)

That's within spitting distance of the post-crisis price I paid for my Bushmaster Patrolman.

Nowhere near what it should have been in the old pre AWB days, and no doubt a good bit higher than it would have cost had I started collecting parts 3 months earlier, but considering the climate both recently and now? I think I could have done a lot worse.

I don't have the upper yet but currently on my 3rd AR I got the following:

Stripped Lower: $150
LPK: $65
Magpul FDE Grip: $35
Magpul FDE ACS Stock: $100
Buffer Tube/Spring: $35
BB: Spare one laying around, I can't recall how much I got it back in 2006.

So far just around $400 for it I'm sure.

Upper I'm probably gonna get for is the LWRC M6A2 SPR upper for $1920 MSRP unless I can work a contact of mine in TX. It won't be a complete LWRCI M6A2 SPR and more like a Frankengun but M6A2 completes are hard to come by now and in the end the price will be just under a complete M6A2. Sucks that they don't take orders for cerakote coated/colored at LWRCI anymore.

Can't believe 650 for a lower!!!! 750 for a complete upper including BCG isn't horrible deal.
Prices of things are blowing me away, crazy
Parts kit 100
Lower 250
Magpul 250

How is a $650 lower blowing you away when the above doesn't even yet include a gissele trigger (150-200) Buffer tube kit with buffer and spring etc (60)

Unless you mean $650 for stripped....
Then it depends on who makes the stripped....

Lets see my build...

Megamonolithic Billet set upper and Lower = $1200
Parts kit minus trigger $50
Trigger Giesselle $225
PRI Low prof Gas block $65
ADAMS PISTON KIT $265
Magpul UBR $235
Enidine Buffer $90
PRI Buffer tube $60
Buffer Spring $10
Mid Length Gas tube $10
DD 14.5 Barrel $300
Black out COMP $100
Norgon AMBI $85
Radlock $35
PRI GAS BUSTER CHARGING $85

That puts me above the $2500 range already.....

Sigh, when I built/assembled my first one in 2010, it cost me less than 800. Lrb lower 140otd, bcm midlength and bcm bcg 550, palmetto lpk build 109 bb and magpul buis was free. My second was a 700 build. Two complete builds purchased this year to complete my collection 3300 smackers a sionics rifle being built and a complete spikes rifle that I will dros Tuesday. I paid 1/2 of what I paid per rifle with my 2 builds. But I'm done so I'm happy. Enjoy and keep shooting!

Just finished my latest.

Stag stripped lower $250
CMMG LPK $65
CMMG Complete 22" stainless bull barrel free float upper $679
No name adjustable stock $FREE ( couple in my closet, bought years ago)

No optics yet, and I will be doing a different stock soon, but I threw some MBUS sights I had laying around on it and had a shoot able rifle for right at the $1k mark.

Got in on the November QD gb and bp, took care of my lower, Lpk, and stock/buffer assembly for 225 + machine 65. Dropped a 22 chiappas upper on it and used it for a few weeks before selling for the same price I paid, picked up a new 22 bolt, taccom barrel, and dpms slick side upper, cheap but quality ff quad rail, back up sights for roughly 475.

I have QD ar10 and ar15 lowers on order now. Looking forward to slightly lower prices than a couple months ago, but I should have bought an upper on black Friday before sandy hook. On the hunt for Lpk's and other parts as I patiently fulfill the 12 week wait time.

Silly posts... that means include tax, shipping, tools, fuel, internet and assembly manhours.

Then ammo and range time for testing.

NIB is ammo for sighting, done.

I agree people should be including tax and shipping in their posts, but assembly manhours, ammo and range time are not part of the price comparison, since the same costs would apply to a factory-built new rifle purchase.

I would like to see an indication of whether some of these prices people paid are pre-craze or post-craze prices, however... a few have put that in there, but most have not. Someone bragging about how they put together a full rifle for $600 is impressive if every part was purchased in 2013. If everything was purchased last year, before prices spiked and availability plummeted, that's just routine, not really brag-worthy.

Encouraged to see all the progress made by people on their builds, but makes me want to pounce on the next viable complete I run into or wait it out on a Daniel Defense custom.
