Default look what papa still had

locked up in his safe!!

remington 121 fieldmaster.

my father in law had gotten this from his father in law. little bit of pitting on the receiver. some old grease and dirt inside. barrel had some dirt.

scope on it looked to be as old as the rifle, and not clear. by the barrel marks, it looks to be made in 1945. gonna get a nice scope for it.

took apart, cleaned, and it's smooth as a baby's bottom. barrel is shiny as a mirror. tomorrow is going to be FUUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!

my 11 year old son is on cloud 9. somewhere, way on up high, so is his great grandfather

Nice. Now you have an excuse to shoot with the kids more often.

I love old gallery guns. I have a Win. 1906 from my one of my grandpas. Whatever you do, do not let him take full possession of it until he's 30. I've seen a few young adults sell family heirlooms just because they were "only .22lrs".

Does your 121 have rifling? Mine is a smoothbore chambered and marked "for shotshells only". If yours happens to be a smoothbore, it is exceptionally rare and sought after by a small niche of collectors. If not, it's still an awesome gun.

I want one of those, they look like they would be a blast to shoot (I've never had a chance to shoot one). Have a good time with your son shooting!

Very nice. Have you checked the value? Some of those old rim fire rifles are worth some dough. I inherited a nice pump .22 Model 62 (I think) which I seldom shoot because of it's value.

Either way, enjoy!

it's gonna be shot. I'm not of the collector mindset with guns. to me, keeping it locked up and never used is kind of a waste. value is in utility. just becasue it's old and probably not that common simply means that I have an older pump 22. that's all. it'll shoot as well as new ones, probably better. the heft of it is impressive. all solid metal. back when things like that mattered. no plastic trigger guards on this one in fact, use of a gun shouldn't diminish its value at all so long as it's well taken care of.

it's got a rifled bore which is prefect. more accurate.

I'll put decent glass on it, but nothing too fancy. my son wants to eventually go deer hunting with me, and I'll probably take him out with that to shoot some squirrels first. get him used to shooting with a scope. up to now, we've only shot iron, which is how I think it should be. and he's pretty good with my 10/22 and the tech sights.

A little disappointed, I was expecting a brand new bag.

Just kidding.

Looks great, your son is a lucky fella. Both of you have fun shooting it!

I have a 121, made iirc in the late 1930's.

Scary accurate. She came with a Weaver 2.5 or 3x.

You will love it...I'll never sell mine.

Major congratulations.

I'm not sure there was one. If there was, it was probably sold as an option, and made by Marble's. I had a Marbles that was canvas and leather, not gun model specific, just takedown .22 generic. They look something like this:

I doubt there's a .22 made now that exhibits the workmanship, fit and finish of the 121. Exceptions might be Kimber, Anshutz (sp?), or Browning. But none of those companies make a pump.

Ditto on not giving it to a kid until they're at least 30 and have the required common sense.

The gun is great. However, I am more impressed that grandpa is called papa. My grand son calls me papa and yes, he is in line for a gun collection.

Very nice! Enjoy!

The 2nd best part is the number of times it got handed down to the next generation. The best part is that you get to hang out with your 9-yr old son!

Stay safe.

I think you can pump and fire those guns.
Dont tell your boy that, or he will burn through 22s
