Default NightForce NXS 1-4x24 vs. Leupold 1-3x14 Mark 4 CQ/T

I put an SA58 FAL Para in jail yesterday and thinking about an optic. It'll be used primarily for 50 - 300 yard shooting so want something with a little bit of magnification. I am thinking about either the NF NXS 1-4x24 (FC-2) or the Leupold 1-3x14 Mark 4 CQ/T (red circle dot). Has anyone had any experience with either of these? Any others worth considering up to $1,500? TIA!

I built a STG carbine kit on DSA receiver and tried various types of glass out on it with an ARMS flat-top and then a DSA flat-top, and never really liked it. It shoots 3" at 100 yards and the design of how the dust cover fits to the receiver is not very conducive to accuracy (think AK dust cover).

My favorite optics on a carbine length FAL:

1) Trilux (hard to find one in good condition) 4x
2) Any of the Hensoldt Z-24's (3rd gen was the best)
3) Cheap Leapers copy of the Z-24 (pretty nice for a chinese knockoff)

Ive been looking a lot at low power variables lately. Here is what I liked and am choosing from. They all fall below yoir price.

Swfa SS 1-4x. (might find some deals on pre owned since the 1-6 is finally shipping)
Swfa SS 1-6x (unless you find it privately there is a backorder)
Bushnell elite tactical 1-6.5
Vortex razor 1-4x
Vortex razor 1-6x
Leupold 1.5-5x VX-R firedot

I like the ones with crosshairs more. Leupold is a great deal, im deciding if its worth it for mr to pay more for a true (or close to true im not sure yet) 1x and have 6x at the top end with the new vortex razor 1-6x. Also, I need to find out if either of them will not wash out in the sun.

Thanks for your responses - those are all interesting options. I do want a true (or as true as you can get) 1x but prefer a red dot or circle reticle for faster target acquisition. I may need to take a closer look at the Vortex's and Bushnell.

Went in a completely different direction and ended up with an EOTech XPS 3-0 for a variety of reasons (both rational and irrational).

Can't wait to get my FAL out of jail so I can pair them up.

It't not irrational at all Bro, Eotech is a great choice for any CQB style carbine FAL. It's the super expensive 1-4x's I find way overkill on a rifle that may or may not shoot 1.5 moa. I used my Eotech all the time on my STG-58 carbine.

Thanks Discogodfather. That's the conclusion I came to, as well. I was much faster with the EOTech than with the Aimpoint and the circle/dot reticle will allow me to go out 300+ yards easily and hit a plate with practice. Also, I have a 1-4x already and don't have an HWS sight so wanted to try something different.

The irrational part was spending a little more to get the 3-0 just in case I decided to get some NV goggles

Now you can just get a flip to side magnifier and still be under budget.

Yeah, that was actually part of the thought process, too. I will see how I use it before I get a magnifier, but it's nice to know that the option is there.
