Default Type 53 stock

Just got my Type 53 from Century, and it's missing a big chunk. Aim sells stocks for 91/30s. Is this the same stock or is it different?

It's very different. The 91/30 is the rifle, and the Type 53 is the carbine with attached bayonet. A Mosin-Nagant M44 stock should fit, if you find one.

I don't have the missing piece either. Is there a way to cut down a 91/30 or will only m44 variants work?

Yikes! Looks like an incomplete arsenal repair.....if you've got some woodworking skills, you can use any kind of hardwood to repair that. Gotta be good at cutting and fitting though.

Good idea with the Archangel stock.....not available yet as far as I know. That setup may be illegal in the future as well.

There is no legislation in the pipeline that will make the Archangel stock illegal...

Maybe illegal to the purist police tho!

Repair that stock

You can cut down a 91/30 stock but there a bunch of intricacies you'll have to pull off to make it halfway decent.

If you have those type of woodworking skills, a heel repair would be a lot easier than cutting and remaking a whole stock and handguard

If you "got skills" then repair the stock (or find someone you trust)

Any-how I Found this one on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mosin-Nagant...item3ccf4d88c7
$47 + $14(shipping)

BTW - Have you talked to Century? I'd be curious what they have to say!

Most places will let you send it back and get a replacement (if you want to wait and IF they have anymore)

If they ask why tell them it's unsafe to shoot, which it is..

I Think counting out part of the forearm and splicing the remain back together would be as easy as adding a chunk to the but of that stock. And take similar skills. And your new wood will not match the rest of the stok. IMHO

Why would you want to duffel cut it and reattach? Not a good idea

And then there are those pesky sling slot locations

My plan for making a 91/59 stock out of a 91/30 stock was this

First, cut once about an inch in front of the rear band clamp and then again about an inch behind the sling slot. Then I was going to join the parts with epoxy and pegs. The cleaning rod and the recess for it should make clamping a cinch. Slots may not line up perfect with an m44 stock, but it will work and be passable

This was purchased as a "good condition with crack". I knew beforehand that it would be cracked, I just didn't think it would be this bad or that they wouldn't send me the broken chunk. It seems OK to shoot. I may wait until I can find one on the cheap.
