Question Leaving AD, moving to CA Guard. Qs on bringing AWs into state.

Hi guys,
I left AD USAF and joined the CA guard. I heard the taxes in CA were real low and guns were second nature to the culture. But CA is home and there are no beaches or waves elsewhere. Might stay a year, might stay longer. Officially still a resident of another state, but on continuous TDY orders in CA until I decide to stay or move.

so here is my gun question.
I have a Bulgarian built ISD made AK-74, SSR-85C model 5.45 (not on a CA ban list) with a fixed stock at my last base still with other guns n ammo. Its your standard looking AK-74.

I've replaced the crap parts, added a Bulgarian rail, gunkoted it and made it nice so Id rather not sell and replace it.

1-So, other than putting a CA AK maglock on the trigger guard, are there any other mods I'd need to make it to be CA compliant?

2-Since I bought the gun at my last AD base outside CA, where normal guns are legal, is it still considered my rifle once I enter CA? There is no DROS outside of CA so of course there are no receipts or anything showing ownership. It will not be an "assault rifle" due to the mods, but simply, a "rifle" and I don't find any mention of needed to register a normal rifle with the bureau in CA.

3-Can I simply move to CA and bring my previously owned handguns and rifles (so long as they dont fit the CA AWB list) and be ok? Or is there some sort of post-facto registration Id need to do, like make a DROS for guns I already own? Do cops demand to see paperwork for a gun you legally already own when transporting it?

Thanks
Rem.

Welcome to California. Thank you for your service. Now you have to get used to some very inane gun laws.

Check out the Calguns flowcharts (on the menu bar right under the "CALGUNS.NET" logo) to make sure that your weapons are legally configured.

You'll need to register your handguns and pay a fee to the California DOJ. Details are on the DOJ webpage. It's a simple process. You can do it by mail.
