Default Any interest in a group anodizing?

Hey guys I am wondering if there is any interest in joining me on anodizing to get a better price. Going through the guy in this thread. http://mobile.calguns.net/calgunforu...d.php?t=304342

I have one 80% AR lower that I need to have done and the price is normally $80 per batch. He said that we can include up to 10 items per batch and that it would be the same price for me to do my single lower, as it would be if a group of us did as many as 10 lowers. If we get 10 lowers that would mean $8 per lower! I don't expect to get 10 lowers but I am wondering if their is any interest in helping me cut down my cost, as well as whoever joins in on the batch? It would be type 2 anodizing.

Thanks Guys!
Hunter

I am interested. My jig should be arriving any day. Then the machine work and some engraving.

Or is this for un-machined 80%?

Count me in if you get at least 4 guys together.
I got one I built up that could use anodizing.
Are we waiting on site or do they have a FFL?
My lower has been fully machined.

Edit: Looks like I'm out since it's already engraved with a serial number.

Well the guy told me that for anodizing it takes about a week, and they do not have an FFL... He told me it would be ok as long as there are no serial numbers but I know that isn't legal. if you guys want to do your 80% lowers before completion that would probably be best. Mine is fully machined though.

He can do the laser engraving same day however so that is not a problem.

Techplate in Anaheim has an FFL license but they charge a lot. like around 100 bucks for one lower, and it takes like two weeks.

Kind of new to the Lower Receiver community. What are 80% and it sounds like it might be illegal? Thanks.

No they are not illegal but it is basically a lower that still needs a few holes drilled, and the part for the trigger assemble still needs to be CNC'd out. They are legal to sell without registration because they are not considered a firearm since you can't assemble it. You cannot have someone else machine it though, you have to find someone with the program set up on their CNC, and then you machine it yourself. Then it is a home built gun and you don't have to register it unless you want to sell it.

I think you can not ever sell it, unless you are a manufacture. Right?

He can't do any guns that have serial numbers because he doesn't have a FFL license. Unfortunately. I am thinking about looking into other options for anodizing and just using him for the laser engraving.

I am going to give this a try and report back. "Anodizing and dyeing aluminum without battery acid". I'll use 6061 and 7075 materials.

Yeah I decided against it personally since my lower is already 100% machined and I don't want the guy to get in trouble since he cannot anodize it same day.

just so you know, laser my gun deals with paintball guns that are type II anno but real firearms are generally done in type III anno.

Wouldn't you need to anodize after its drilled too? To protect new exposed surfaces? I'm new also.
