That was for voting, after 0bamacare was upheld because it was a tax basically on your existence then they won't have any problem with a tax on ammo.

This would be intensely interesting, as DICKinson just had a press conference on this bill TODAY, April 15....

Can anyone confirm?

What they don't need more taxes to fund the pension system? Must have found an easier way to get it elsewhere.

He was likely referring to the Rev and Tax's "Suspense Calendar." Fiscal committees such as this contain these calendars (really it is nothing more than a list of bills) that levy a tax. Very common practice. The committee will take up ALL the bills on the suspense calendar at one hearing. It really is simply a way for the committee to hear all these tax levy bills on one particular day.

In no way should people consider the placement of this bill on the suspense calendar as any indication of what the final disposition might be.

In other words, keep up the pressure!

If this is allowed to stand, then step 2 will be to place ammunition into the property tax laws. Annually you would have to pay a tax upon the appraised value of all the ammo owned. Hell, why not for guns too.

Default Already ruled on.

Minnesota tried to tax ink and paper. It was ruled unconstitutional 8-1. Violates the 1st Amendment. Doesn't it seems like it would be the same as taxing ammo?

Of course they have the stomach to ram these through.

I doubt it. That means the courts would actually have to respect the 2A in the same way they respect the 1A.

Times are weary now as they are pulling every underhanded trick to see what they can slip by as they try and wear us down. Nothing respectable or law abiding coming from from the right and liberals. There should definitely be more accountability and personal responsibility for their onslaught against constitutional and personal rights. This might bring caution and stop the nonsense that is being currently written. It might better to try and go on the offense and create some protective laws such as were written to protect hunters from being harassed.

Bill did not pass from Appropriations by annual deadline. This one was sidelined in favor of AB 187, which also failed today.

Bill appears DEAD.

CRPA appreciates your support!
YOU ARE THE CALIFORNIA GUN LOBBY!
BE PROACTIVE AND GET INVOLVED

We've got good news to share...

Today is the last day for bills to be reported out of the Appropriations and Tax & Revenue Committees of their House of origin. Earlier today, AB 187 (Ammo Tax), AB 760 (Ammo Tax), and AB 1020 ($ Million DROS Expenditure to send letters) all failed todays' deadline for passage out of the Appropriations and Tax & Revenue Committees.

Most important of these were: AB 760, which would have assessed a 5 cent tax per round purchased, AB 187 which would have assessed a 10% tax on ammo, and AB 1020, which would have required the Attorney General to issue a letter during the 10-day waiting period to firearms purchasers advising of safe storage requirements and laws relating to gun trafficking at a cost of approximately $ 1 million.

Thanks to your ongoing efforts, there are three less bills we are facing this year...

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and remember those who paid the ultimate price.

Very glad it didn't pass. It would have been a very bad day for reloaders if it had.

Quote:

(a) “Ammunition” means projectiles with their fuse, propelling charges, or primers fired from a weapon, or any of the individual components thereof, including without limitation shot, sharpel bullets, or shells. “Ammunition” shall not include a BB or a pellet commonly used in an air rifle or air pistol.

Literally read, a reloader would have been charged a $.05 tax for each shot pellet. Could you imagine? There are about 410 #8 pellets in a 1 oz 12 gauge shell. That would amount to a tax of $20.50 per shell just for the pellets.
