Default The Rimfire Ammo gods were good to me today

After a few weeks of searching, I finally stumbled upon some 22lr ammo today in a little gun store I found off the beaten path.. This was much needed for my new 22lr handgun which will be out of jail on the 24th. Surprisingly it was at a fair price and he let me buy all that he had left in stock.

Nice score, congrats!! You got a nice variety to see what your pistol will like. I've been patiently waiting for certain brands to become available but was able to score 1K of CCI Quiet 22, 500 of Wolf match and 500 of Wolf match extra this week. It's more speciality but it'll be great in the bolt action rifles.

Yes, they are the 50 rounders.. No I have a little surplus luckily, this is just what I found today after a few weeks of searching up in my area. I have been searching daily at every gun shop, online sources, big 5, sporting good stores and the local walmarts. Unfortunately, ammo is scarce in this region as everyone is buying it up. There is only one store, Wild Sports that still has ammo, but that is because they limit one box a day of each caliber and the same guy sits behind the counter from open to close.

Nice to try different Ammo out, good score! I'm finding what my Barrel/Gun likes & selling the rest. After Boltwork my 10/22 loves Subsonic LRN & I'm grateful! I sold 1K CCI tonight alone, dirty stuff & I have others to choose from. I ALWAYS share Vendors, it's a karma thing, the CG way! HH glad you have Ammo, it's work, huh?

Are you opening up a store ?. I think After what has happened it is wise to keep at least 2000 rounds around at all times!

Never heard of Big horn?? Where is that located. Actually picked this up at a little store off Madison and Watt ave next to N. Highlands Upholstery. A bunch of fishing stuff, however they have a little area in the back with a few guns and a little bit of ammo.

And no lol. Just bought what the little store had left. I agree about the 2,000 although if my wife would let me spend more of our money I would add a zero to the 2,000!

I was very jealous with you till I found out those are 50 round boxes. When the panic just got started for a couple days, I went to Walmart and they still have many 225 round box of Rem Golden Bullet. I've heard horror things about Rem in 22lr, and have a brick of ThunderBolt that refuses to feed. So, I only get 2 box of Rem GB and didn't have a chance to try it out till 2 weeks later. When I know that they work, I start going back to Walmart for more. And more they have. It seemed like that's the only thing they have in the otherwise bare case. I got a few more boxes. Now I wish I got even more ... But anyways, Walmart has 3 boxes limit now. It's not worth it to go ammo hunting at walmart anymore considering how much gas cost now.

Go enjoy your 22 fun I would love to try that Fiocchi 22lr

Fiocchi is good ammo. I have some in 22WMR. Reliable and shoots great in my WMR.

Your are right, basic elementary economics "supply and demand", but I do not think my little purchase is the problem..

This is:

http://news.yahoo.com/homeland-secur...190840538.html

Ammo supply is going to be dry for the next couple of years with this going on. So I would rather stockpile my ammo now, instead of cry later and state, "I should have", when its even harder to get or is more regulated by the govt.

I know of a shop that always have 22lr. They must have 30+ box of Federal red box, 500 solid nonplated 40gr bullet. It was about $23 when the panic started. A week later it was $25, and then $28. It must be about $30 now. Funny thing is, they still have some left even right now. It seem like nobody want to buy them at that price, yet, having nothing to shoot. I got a couple boxes, but then I think I have enough to sit tight and ride out the shortage. In the last shortage of 2008, I bought all the minimag I could find, and afford. Still got them now. All I used was Walmart cheap stuff and they work almost perferctly. I see no point in using minimag which cost almost twice as much. That's the lesson I leanred. Once in a while, just buy a box of 22 at walmart and stack them up, and forget about them. Stock 22 if you can't affort anything else.

I see you live in Central Valley. It was near Palm Spring so it's quite far for you. You'll have better luck online or at Walmart.

I don't understand why .22LR is in such short supply.
Seems to me like it's least likely to be effected by any new legislation.

Off topic: I don't see why .22LR bolt action rifles are so scarce either.

22lr is in short supply is because at this current time, everyone wants it, and nobody makes it. Everyone wants it because it's the cheapest, and so they can save some money waiting for ammo price to go down. Nobody make it because why waste manpower and materials to make such things while they can make much more money putting those men and lead into makeing 5.56mm.
