Saw them after visting Big 5, some young girls and hippies. Do they even know what's it all about? They put signs listing no. of deaths in some big cases and BS like "Assault gun is not Pro-Life"(skipping classes and enjoying social benefit is) etc..

Young suburbanites who have been conditioned to believe that 911 will save them from any and all danger protesting guns?

They are wide-eyed college students in OC....20 minutes later they were smoking pot and discussing feeding the world's poor and buying everyone a puppy...no biggie.

Here's more anti-gun protest/rallies being planned by theOC Brady chapter

Do these things ever have any "meat" to them that have to be countered? Or do we just let them say their piece in front of one of the very few Democrat-led city councils in OC? (In other words, is it just one big echo chamber?)

I'm of the notion to quash this before it spreads. . . however we will need to address the need for someone trained to speak to the media before we attempt to mount a counter-campaign.

Will the media even bother with this? The announcement posted on the OC Brady Facebook page lists the location and time, but they're so secretive with it all - one of the comments asked for additional details, and the administrator directed that person to send a direct message for it. It's as if they have a list of people who are known opponents, and they want to do their utmost to prevent any infiltration. I'd be very interested to see what their perspective is and see where they're coming from, but they won't even give me that. If I'm being disruptive and disrespectful, that's one thing. I don't understand what they're so afraid of. I suppose their compatriots (e.g., Project Pink) are disruptive and disrespectful, so they naturally assume everyone is like them, and they wouldn't want to be subject to the same treatment.

This culture of restrictiveness is the antithesis of what our side is about. I don't remember any time we banned a Brady from coming to a shoot or some other meeting. I suppose that shouldn't come as a surprise - all these people are about is restricting this, restricting that, banning this, banning that.

Media person, yes, do you know any? We need our own local Gene Hoffman or the like - who's going to step up to the plate?

If only a drunk driver would crash into a tree during there protest and redirect there focus we could all go and wait in huge lines at the gun show this weekend instead.

I figure that ther will be huge lines. I plan on being there 1 hour early. Think that is enough time to be at the head of the line?

I suggest we all arrive with the blue training guns. Our signs should have slogans such as:

"I defended myself against a rapist."

OR

"A man was trying to murder my wife but I stopped him."

OR

"My child could have been doing drugs but he was learning to shoot in the Boy Scouts instead."

I'm sure you can come up with better slogans than mine. Lets hear them!

I wasn't actually there, I phoned this one in. I tracked some of the Twitter feeds of the people who said were going to be live-tweeting it, and these pictures are what I was able to pick up. So, even though they uploaded it for public consumption to a social media site, the original Tweeter probably retains (c), and if ImageShack got a takedown notice, they'd remove it.

Anyway, not impute this on our side when we go on demonstrations, but the people who go to these tend to be rather vain; if there was indeed media coverage, I think there would have been more pictures and tweets along the lines of "OMG! Channel X news is here! We're sooooooo important!" As you'll see in some of the pictures, there appear to be some pro-sumer grade video equipment, but that's probably just their own videographer, or perhaps a local interest cable channel.

The idea of a counter-protest sounds appealing, but no matter how peaceable we are, they will spin it as the pro-rights side "intimidating" the anti-civil rights activists. When it's their protest we're counter-protesting, we'll be seen as antagonistic instigators. Also as you can see in the pictures, the participants tend to be more on the elderly side, women, and children. If we showed up with even blue guns, it might actually end up being a media-worthy event, and you know whose side they will take.

The more I think about it, if we were to attend, it should be in relatively low numbers and just for observing and reporting/photographing. We should also be as low key as possible. As frustrating as it may be, there's nothing to be gained from directly engaging with them. There's will come a time and place for demonstrations, ones that our group pre-plans such as this:

If they decide to counter-protest that, they will become the antagonists/instigators - as demonized as we are, we can't afford to lose that high ground by going to counter-protest their event.

It doesn't look like they had a whole bunch of people there, but I'm not sure we'd be able to get many more than that county-wide on a Thursday afternoon. I do see more people lined up and waiting to get on to a lane at OnTarget on a Saturday late morning/early afternoon, however.

This article says 200 people, but from the pictures I've seen of the event, it's easily under a hundred, maybe under 50.

Here's any idea. Instead of a counter-protest, which I agree with SamsDX points , we do a co-protest. Our group would have signs calling for waiting periods/background checks for buying pressure cookers, bringing back prohibition and background checks for purchasing knives. We could have flyers with stats. on the number of deaths per year for knives and alcohol.

We could be right along side of them, even mixed in and of course we wouldn't engage them in any firearms related discussion.

Just an idea.

It is a good idea for infiltrating. I know some of us will have a hard time biting our tongues when they try to spread false/inaccurate information.

Yeah, it would be hard for some to bite their tongues, but if done right, I think it would diminish their message and hopefully enlighten some of public to the futility/ineffectiveness of bans in general. By only engaging them(using their arguments/tactics) on our "ban" campaign we can put them on the defensive. We'll claim they are shills for the cutlery, alcohol, and pressure cooker industries. They don't really care about people killed and injured by these things.
