Default 22wrf vs 22longrifle

I am replacing a hammer spring in a Winchester 1890 Pump that is chambered in 22WRF. There don't seem to be any 22WRF shells available, that are not collector shells. There is supposed to be a new run this summer, but I wanted to know if it would be safe to test fire with 22long rifle shells. The 22long rifle bullet is .004 less in diameter so shouldn't be any pressure problems. Has anyone shot 22long rifle shells in a 22WRF, and would it be safe? Thanks

Not recommended because you will have a
Case rupture.

Maybe not on the first round or second.
It will happen

What ^ said. Case on .22lr is smaller in diameter so it will expand out to the chamber wall and likely rupture. Just wait until you can get some WRF ammo. Be safe.

CCI sells .22 WRF, because people have rediscovered they can be shot in .22 magnum revolvers. Sort of like shooting a .38 special in a .357 magnum. I bought some from my LGS not that long ago. Winchester does a run of them every now and then too, and I always seem them (new / reproduction) at the gun shows. I've got CCI WRF rounds right now for my Single Six. You can find them if you look around or check on line.

Interesting, I didn't know this about .22WRF. Can you use them in other guns chambered for .22mag, such as lever guns with tube magazines?

I can only speak for the revolvers. They are shorter than the .22 mag and I don't known that they'd cycle in any specific rifle. But WRF is available, and I shoot it in my .22 mag revolver all the time.
