Default Who hunted the last weekend of A zone ?

Perfect weather the deer are in rut, should have been good. Anyone out there that hunted? How did it go?

Blacktail bucks don't enter rut until early November. Most of CA is closed down by then. Every year I hunted the end of B-zone, I hoped for some tweak in the weather or the stars or whatever would put those bucks into rut a few weeks sooner. No suck luck.

But I'm going to try again the last weekend of the season. What the heck. It's good to just be out there anyway.

i put in a full weekend 9/21-9/23 in the very northern part of a-zone. was all over Mendocino national forest and it was TERRIBLE. even with the rain the deer were not moving at all. I jumped a few does down low but talked with many other guys who hadn't see any bucks at all either.

not sure what to do for a B-zone strategy. don't know if the dry year will keep them up high where thunderstorms and/or springs provide some water or if the have all migrated to lower elevations around reservoirs and private land with permanent water.

I've never seen so many people running all over the hills in the Los Padres. If you would have taken a shot in any direction, you could have been charged with PC 246.3

Bucks around the Bay Area are rutting hard right now. The further north you go the later it starts. I hunted lake county for about 20 years, there was usualy some sort of activity by the last weekend. The ranch I hunt now in mendo the rut starts around nov, luckily they have plm tags and can hunt till the first weekend of Dec.

The years I hunted lake county we would only get a rain in deer season maybe every 5 years, the deer would go nuts. The rain last week would have been great to hunt in.

Default Oroville area

I saw a small buck on my property as it galloped away. I have no patience for deer hunting. I like bird hunting where walking and making noise are a benefit.

Uhm no, they're not. There's isn't a single blacktail in rut in this state right now. Period.

You have no clue as to what your talking about. I have been watching them rut for the last week at my job in Danville. I guarantee there are bucks starting to rut as far north as lake county.

Believe me I have hunted them since I was a teen I know blacktails.

I wish I could put up more pics but I've only had a digital camera for 3 or 4 years.

I wish I had some one to teach me to hunt when i was a kid. My family thinks the only people who have guns are police and gangbangers and they swear im trying to fall into the later catergory, last time i checked gangbangers dont try to hunt coyote and never met a gangbanger with a double stack open pistol.

pieeater should change his name to gameeater - when does this guy work?

the deer here (moraga) are going nuts. after eating most of my landscaping (which i don't mind as they are great rose pruners) they have been all over the roads. i damn near hit a doe in Lafayette with my car yesterday as she had buck chasing her with his nose up her a**.

I work up in Moraga a lot, I've done quite a few remodels up there in Sanders Ranch.
