We've been discussing this over here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=667911

They turn off sales periodically to catch up. It's PROBABLY just that and no big deal.

I know, but that doesn't elicit the same "Road-runner" dust-cloud.

They are also sold out of SA Field grades.

I'm not so sure its just a "catch up" move. Orest stated a while ago that they would be offering M1 rifle parts sales again in the not too distant future. Years ago he stated selling parts was a mistake and they wouldn't be doing that again until they were out of rifles to sell.

You also have to consider before the panic buying started, they figured a 3ish year supply of rifles remaining. Look at the rest of the industry and the high sales rates the last couple of months. Gun shop racks and shelves are way low on inventory. The CMP isn't immune to the huge increase in demand. Anyone who was sitting on the fence about purchasing one, two, or twelve rifles has jumped off to get while the getting is still good.

Hope I'm wrong and time will certainly tell, but there may be more to it than just needing time to catch up. ln the mean time, better order up some HRAs.

If your order was postmarked before the announcment you will get your rifle

Someone posted that on the other thread, and he's exactly right. I have been buying rifles from CMP since 2005 and we have seen this before.

There are plenty of Garands sitting in South Korea. . . if the State Dept. would only let them back into the U.S.

Those rifles you are referring to in South Korea are not MAP rifles. If it was the state department can't stop them from coming back just like the last ones from Greece.

There was a rumor about some returns from Turkey, IH M1s. I'd love to have one if they become available.

'Tis a sad day for C&R collectors. Sure, plenty of SAs on the market but at stupid prices.

There are a lot of people who are realizing the Garand may be the ONLY semi auto rifle they can legally own soon. There is not an infinite supply of quality WWII guns anymore. I stupidly sold mine to a friend. But got a James River Armory restored instead.

Well I picked up mine at their two locations in 2011

1-H&R, correct grade, 1-Springfield, correct grade 1-Springfield, service grade special and 1-1903 Springfield, Mark I.

I'm set.

They still have rifles in "The Warehouse" that have not been uncrated and prepared for sale. They don't know what's there or the condition. So, they probably just ran out of rifles that were "shelf-ready."

On the other hand: anyone want to buy my H&R Service Grade Special for $2000?

I was waiting until I got my bonus in a month to pick up another HRA and a SA service grade. Considering what's been going on, I might as well put my order in now for the HRA and see what happens with the SAs

It's temporary till they catch up.

Orest stated that this is just to catch up on orders. They are not completely out of these rifles. They ahve so many orders to catch up on from panic buying that to keep from egtting behind they posted as sold out
I have seen it happen several times beofre over the years

I ordered back in May of last year and didn't get my order in until August, I was always told the wait times would be long, wouldn't be surprised if buyers now had to wait 2-3 months on average.

And, it'll give them a chance to unload some of those junky old HRA's.

When it was a .GOV run program through the Army (DCM) it took between a year to 18 months to get your "one in a lifetime" rifle. (and you took what they sent you) So a several week wait is still a big improvement over the old system. But the wait still sux,, lol.

Actually, I would be extremely surprised.

They just went through a CoL increase not too long ago - the first in many years that also incorporated the cost of the new monogrammed hard cases.

The IHC's will be pricey, as will the Spam-can ammo.

What will go up is the Gun-show whore price when the CMP is finally cleaned out of Service Grades all together.

Yikes!

When you see the IHCs and spam can ammo on the CMP website, that means "the end is nigh" according to Orest. Until then, they should have enough HRAs and hopefully will resume SAs once they get caught up.

If you own a CMP Garand, consider yourself lucky to have been a shooter during the golden age of C&Rs. Now that we are at 1962 for the 50 year cut off, there aren't a lot of newer era C&R military rifles that are going to be available to us because they were mostly select fire.

I've had my garand for over 20 years. it's a low serial number SA (Jan 42 birth) with a 65 series barrel dated 12 65. It's a shooter. But got through a dealer not cmp. Back then it was dcm.

Wish I'd have gotten more over the years. Never got around to it. Guess nows the time huh???

I think the thing we need to consider sadly is that 40-50 years from now where will be?? No garands and parts rare. I will not be around then but I wonder about my kids. And then what??

It's probably something we really don't want to think about. They aren't being made anymore and what's left is running out.

Makes me sad. Sorry to add salt

I was at the South Store last week, Thursday and the stock of rifles was absolutely saddening from when I went last year around this same time. That day there were more rifle racks empty than were full and only the high priced snipers were in quantity. Lucky for me I was just there to pick up a Kimber M82G and ended up picking up a non-scratched rust free rifle so the 1.5 hour trip to Anniston was worth it to me. I spend a good amount of time there browsing the rifles and I saw quite a few people leave empty handed but most people left with something. When I talked to Leon he said they had 10k orders pending and all the inventory was being used to fill orders and that's why there was not a lot to select from.

I suspect the prices on rifles will increase as well. Hell, I bought my first Garand back in 2002 from CMP and from the moment I sent my order in until I received it was 1 week or less and I believe I paid $525 shipped for a SA SG WWII era rifle. Now the price of a RG is more than that.

Can I assume that the spam can ammo is going to be magnetic?

A few months ago I emailed the CMP about their Greek surplus ammo and asked whether or not the (4C3006X000-200P) ammo was magnetic. They said no. It seems like that has changed because now the site specifically says that it does (I'm assuming that its a mix of magnetic and non-magnetic ammo given the various headstamps that are being shipped out).

Unfortunately for me, I cant shoot any magnetic ammo around here so I either have to pony up for the Hornady stuff or start reloading my own.

supposedly most of the Greek HXP is magnetic with a couple years production being non-magnetic.
