Default Rejoice With Me Brothers....For I Have Seen The Light

Just got my Dillon XL 650 reloading press with most of the doo-dads, bells and whistles. And a new reloading bench I made at work to go with it! I went from this:

to this!

(ignore that purple light....that's actually an orange glow from my satellite shaped directional heater [placed far away for safety] )

The bench is all anchored down to the toekick and toekick is anchored down to the concrete via redheads. The backs are also screwed into the wall. The benchtop is a 1.5" ArmorCor Plywood. The top sits at 41", perfect height for a workbench and specifically, a reloading bench. The drawers hold all the reloading goodies, from bullets and brass (clean and dirty), reloading tools, dies and other gizmos, and the cabinets on the left and right hold other misc gun parts and reloading equipment that dont fit into the drawers. I put the bullets in boxes in the top right drawer so I wouldnt need a bullet tray.....I just grab straight from the box in the drawer: Very convenient!

My first time reloading with the Dillon was this past weekend. Took a bit to get the hang of it as this is my first progressive press. All I have to say is that I am very glad I had reloading knowledge before I jumped into the progressive world.....it REALLY helped because I already knew the stages and what should be doing what, at the proper time and what the end result should be. I ended up loading some .223 62gr SS109's with 25gr TAC powder. Not including brass prep, I reloaded 70 rounds in 10 mins, 33 seconds. I was going pretty slow the first time around so that I made sure not to make any stupid mistakes. My fastest time on the Lee Turret press was 50 rounds in 18 minutes. Essentially, this equates to being 2.53 times faster than the Lee Turret.....and that was only my first run! The setup was somewhat daunting, even for a 5 year reloader like myself. Lots of parts, lots of figuring out, and lots of learning. I am glad the Dillon directions were very clear! Only trouble I had was with the powder drop.....I had the wrong internal rifle bushing/filter thingy so that it was not moving the powder dispenser all the way with a .223 case. Once I finally found the correct sized filter, it was all good

Anyway, I am glad I went Blue. It was certainly an investment, but one I am confident that I made the right choice in. I will have this the rest of my life with a great company like Dillon to back me up should I need anything. For those that wanna know, I bought the XL 650 with the .223 setup and 2 more Deluxe Quick Change kits for .308 and .45 ACP. All together with some other doo-dads thrown in, the total was nearly $1400 on the dot. Bought it through Brian Enos. Took 3 weeks to get here, purchased on the 11th of January.

Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement with y'all. I'm sure I'll have some questions soon. One I know if right off the top of my head (and havent researched) is, why is there some slight powder leakage from the dispenser? Looks like it should drop clean, but does have a bit of "missage".

Private sector. We here believe in self sustaining enterprise, not govt welfare, handouts or bailouts.

But even if I was building with your dime, wouldnt you rather have it go to a worthy cause such as this, rather than more welfare?

""Looks like it should drop clean, but does have a bit of "missage".""

Do you mean some powder spills from the powder funnel thing? a large 25 gr load will take a second or 2 to fuly drop maybe go slower or use a Ball powder.

Very nice GL. I like my bench clean as well. That looks much sturdier than mine as well. Good job!

Looks good

Gonna be resetting up my station soon. Wondering where you got the cabinets. My last bench was a sheet metal base with no storage and 4x8 butcher block on top.

I made the cabinets at work. All free, cut out and doweled on a CNC router, assembled by hand. We had some extra material left over from a job that we were never going to use

One thing's for sure: If there's ever a massive earthquake in the Rocklin/Roseville area, the inside of this cabinet is the place to be! It's near bomb-proof in rigidity!
