Default Escondido Fish and Game Combat Steel Shoot -- did anyone make it?

The EFGA has this shoot on the first Saturday of the month. Did anyone make it today? What did you think?

I made it this time around it was a load of fun! Safety was observed at all times and they even did some extra non-scored stuff at the end. I had to leave right after the last stage, though, so I didn't get to do it.

This was my first shooting competition. I'm planning on going to this and to IDPA once I secure a third magazine for my XD45.

My husband is thinking of trying one there...he also has never been in a competition. We've been out and to tell the truth, the people out there look pretty old and crochety and redneckedly. Were they nice & helpful? I would go just to eat at valleyview casino afterwards

I made it today. Had a really fun time. Bill and Brian did a great job as usual. Had two new shooters in our squad. All tried to make sure they felt comfortable. This is a good shoot for all levels. Give it a try.

The RSOs doing the scoring were helpful and gave me a procedure to use with 2 magazines instead of 3. There were some younger guys there plus some middle aged folks (like my buddies and I) along with folks of varying nationalities. I'm Filipino and didn't feel at all unwelcome, but then again, I'm at that range all the time. Funny thing is that there was a helicopter who kept making deliveries the entire time we were there and it would sometimes get difficult for the organizers to make themselves heard over it, but they would just pause, wait and then continue giving instructions as soon as it was feasible. The stages were all moved pretty fast, and even shotguns were allowed. No rifles, though.

Everyone who can make it should come out. It's open to the public and the more people we get, the better.

A lot of people have heard about member-only shoots. Do you know dates/times of all shoot available to non-members?

Also, "babe," not sure what area you and your husband live in, but there are steel and other shoots every Thursday night of the month at Iron Sights in Oceanside. Very friendly/helpful crowd.

All of the events are listed here:

It looks like they're all open to the public. I haven't heard of the members-only shoots, but I'm a new member so they probably discuss them at the monthly meetings which I can't ever seem to make it to.

Out of curiosity, how long were you wait listed for? I've been on the fence about signing up for along time (Probably longer than the wait list is) mainly because of the anticipated wait. That and I only know 1 member personally, so it's not like I have a bunch of people urging me to go there instead of BLM. So is the wait really counted in years?

I was on the wait list for a year. Unfortunately, I am told that the current wait is 3 years long. It was worth it in my case.

If you are a younger person those old RSO's will ***** you out over nothing. Don't even think about taking any scary looking assault rifle up there (CA legal configuration of course) the RSO's will have a simultaneous conniption fit meltdown of epic proportions & claim rapid fire even when you are not doing that.

I am middle aged, but as of late there have been more young folks joining up. Before I got a membership, the only rifles I ever took there were AR15s. My buddies who I went with also had the same or even scarier looking weapons. One time, one of the took his Remington .338 LaPua rifle (forget the model number) but it looked like a serious military sniper weapon. No one even gave it a second look. Well.
That's not true, everyone gathered around to watch the guy fire rounds costing 5 bucks each just to see if it would start making cha-ching!!' noises. Another guy brought a semi-auto FN-Fal rifle and it was all good.

It is true that the RSOs will get a hair in their buttocks sometimes, but it seems pretty rare.

Well its been a few years since I was a member so I hope its changed for the better.

My favorite thing while I there was making the monthly newsletter because I shot my AR pistol @ the pistol range... Lmao. They were pissed because all they knew was there was some 223 brass in the pistol range brass bucket. They ASSumed that somebody had fired a rifle over there.

I'm a member and shoot everything there, no one is gonna hassle you if you aren't doing something stupid. I don't know where these stories come from. Current wait list is approx 2 years, good luck.

Since the number of members trying to join is much greater than the number of open slots, you would think that it would actually get worse, but in my experience, that hasn't happened. I've found my time to be very pleasant and I've been around the place in both competition, as one of the junior competition coaches, and as a casual participant.

I have well over the number of hours needed for provisional (new) members, but I keep volunteering to coach because they really need volunteers to participate. Plus, it's a good way to get to know the other members and staff.

Another thought comes to mind -- did anyone make it to the reloading class that JUST happened? I have all the materials, but I don't have .45acp dies, so I couldn't go
